I'm your average day-to-day Bourbon drinker normally, but I had the bartender pour me a glass of Ciroc vodka on the rocks the other night and this stuff was great.

I just thought I had to try it, after seeing all the ad's in the magazines, and It was really pretty darn good.

Now is it worth the $30/750 ml price tag??? probably not. But for you vodka lovers out there I'd recommend at least trying this grape distilled vodka.

Me personnally, I'll bring in a bottle after the price tag drops. Right now it just seems so new and heavily advertised that you're paying for the name and not the product...

Anyone else have any thoughts on this liquor?

Ciroc is above average, in my opinion. You will actually find that some people flat-out do not enjoy Ciroc vodka.

My personal recommendation is Precis vodka from Sweden. You will find it priced at about $30 and worth every penny since it's unfiltered with a smooth, unique taste.

Stoli has just put out an anniversary vodka priced at a little over $60 which I have not tried yet... looks like great marketing, but then again, Stoli has a strong base of supporters.

What's the taste like?? I thought vodka was pure tasteless grain unless you get the flavored stuff? Am I missing something?

As the well versed CA forums reader could tell you, my drink of choice is Tequila, but this stuff is bar none the best Vodka I've ever had. Being made from grapes, the slightly grainy flavor that regularly is prominant is some vodkas is replaced with an almost sweet, champaign like aroma and flavor. It's now a staple in my liquor cabinet!

I don't get this "grape" vodka. It's been my understanding that you get wine, brandy, and then grappa from distillation of grapes. Could someone please explain how you get vodka from them?!?

Vodka can be made from potato, grain, sugar beet, molasses, all kinds of odds and ends and indeed grapes. Waste of grapes if you ask me.

I LOVE Ciroc but only on the rocks. There's a sharp sweetness to it and though it's barely noticeable, I don't think it would mix well with vermouth for a vodka martini. It's also a little harsh on the throat -- not something I'd expect for a $30 vodka.

Smoothest vodka IMO is Belvedere -- keep in in the freezer and it pours and drinks with a creamy smoothness that's almost unbelievable.

BUT the best cheap vodka for me is Svedka -- around $13 a bottle and a steal. Buy some before they come to their senses and raise the price. It's proof-positive that in the liquor industry, just as in the cigar business, a lot of the time you're paying for the name, not the actual product.

For Vodka I have always preferd Grey Goose or Absolut but I have wanted to try Ciroc. I'm not a "Vodka drinker" but it does sound like an interesting drink. I may have to go out and try smoe after reading this thread.

Algernon - there are many grapes that aren't fit for producing wine or brandy but would make a fine vodka. I don't imagine that they ferment expensive grape varietals just to run them through a high efficiency reflux still and lose all the flavor. They probably use the $hit grapes found at the grocery store.

I'm a little new here, but a big vodka drinker. Ciroc, in my opinion, is ok, but very different. If I had to choose, I would say that Absolut and Stoli are my two 'cheaper' favorites. Belvedere cannot be beat in my opinion, and the Goose is always a standby. That's coming from me...I am pretty much a vodka drinker, with the occasional Jameson or Guiness mixed in.

My $.02,
Brett
