I saw the favorite burger condiment thread earlier. That got me thinking about White Castle hamburgers. I was born and raised in Detroit and there was nothing better than a WC burger at 2:00 am. after a few drinks. I haven't been to MI in years and miss my WC burgers. I can't explain to people who haven't tried them what they taste like. The only rule to eating a WC burger was to be close to home. What's your favorite burger house?

In MA, the best burger place I have been to is RF O'Sullivan in Somerville. They have something like 25 different burgers on the menu that they'll cook any way you want.

White Castle is a staple on any night of heavy drinking when someone stayed sober to drive us there. Those burgers...the alcohol...the next morning is definitely rough.

As far as my favorite place, I wish I could say my house, but my neighbor makes some of the best burgers I've had in recent memory. (not really sure it counts as a burger house, though)

Man...White Castle and/or Crystals ...that brings back memories.

Here in Indiana...you have to goto the XXX Drive-In in West Lafayette right on Purdue campus. It is the oldest drive-in in Indiana...their Cheeseburgers and homemade rootbeer are world famous!

GONZO !!!

Here in Canada, the equivalent to WC is Harveys which is charcoaled so it's "better" like everything else up here..except for taxes which is overrated.

Sloburn, I'm in the Detroit area and White Castles are still hard to beat for those late nights, and maybe a quick lunch. I also like the Wheat & Rye in Allen Park or the Captain's Pub in Trenton for a big ol' bar burger.

Man, I havn't had a Tommy's burger in more years than I care to remember. I do seem to remember they had chilli cheese fries that were damn good, too.

Mr. Bartley's Burger Cottage in Harvard Square, Cambridge. The sine qua non of hamburgers.

Louie's Lunch in New Haven, CT! The only thing allowed on their burgers are Cheese, Tomato and Onion....PERIOD!!! Do not ask for ketchup, mustard, Mayo or anything else. The do not allow anything other than Cheese, Tomato and Onion. It's served on toast. You'll wait about 10-15 mins for one, but it's one of the best burgers I've ever had!

Schlesenger's in New Windsor, NY is also makes a great burger. Order an 8ox burger and they simply take an 8ox sirloin steak from the fridge and ground it up. Talk about fresh! Oh, and they have the best damn homemade pickles I've ever had (they bring you a jar when you order your meal). They also have a smoke shop, Hudson Valley Cigars in the same building. Best part is...if you eat in the bar area, you are allowed to smoke.

Now, if we're talking fast food burger chains, nothing is better than 5 Guys Burgers. Bring an appetite with you...you will need it! Oh, an don't even think of ordering a large order of fries...you won't be able to finish them.

Just went to Bartley's a bit ago with a guy that used to work there; it was a hoot, and of course we got abused mercilessly. Damn fine burgers too.

Also, there was a person above from CA who mentioned a burger place that wasn't In and Out... Isn't there a law out there that requires that you to say that's the best? I'm a fan and I don't even live out there any more...

EVP,

I attended Yale as a graduate student. I remember going to Louie's and ordering a burger with mayo on it. The people in the que looked at me as if I had slapped my mother. That was the last time I made that mistake.

Best burger I ever had was, believe it or not at Disney in Florida. Somewhere near the Grand Floridian. Some kind of Jamaican Jerk burger. I still remember how good it was to this day, and that was 12 years ago.
