Not bad stuff. Easy to drink, and easy to like.

Don,

you definitely seem to have an opinion on wine... instead of commenting on some of our members taste, instead can you suggest some of your favorite value wines?

No one mentioned the Goat wines from I think New York - they are a little rough around the edges but drink them like chianti with pizza or steak out of a short water glass and you'll be happy.

I can see you obviously know your stuff when it comes to wines. It would have been really nice to know that there was someone here as knowledgeable as you appear to be. But you kinda ruined it by being such a pompous condescending dickhead. Are you french by any chance? That would actually explain it perfectly. Dickhead that knows a lot about wines. I think that is the definition of a frenchman isn't it?

Don,

Yes you complimented some of the wines that were suggested, but since you seem to know a lot about wines, why don't you contribute some of your favorites...

Yes, I would like to see Coyote Don's list of inexpensive good wine. Since he is the expert he might as well teach us about picking a good wine that wont break the bank.

I'm not an expert, but I don't waste money on wine, cigars, or other commodities. I get the most out of my greenback.

In response to jsprenkel and stogemiester, here's a short list of my favorite tasty wines, $12 and under.

From Spain (None of these are Rioja, pmpimbura):
2002 Don Ramon Oak Aged Red Wine-$6
2000 Castillo de Fuendejalon Crianza-$7
2003 Crucillon Campo de Borja Tinto-$5
Any Coto de Hayas Campo de Borja red-most are under $12-they are all good

From South Africa:
2003 Fairview Goats Do Roam-$11

From Australia:
2003 Wishing Tree Shiraz-$12
d'Arenberg's The Stump Jump, red and white-$12

From France:
Red: 2003 Pelican Bleu-$11
White: 2003 Hugues Beaulieu Picpoul de Pinet Coteaux du Languedoc-$9

From Cal:
Marietta Old Vine Red -$11

I wish I could find it but several months ago Consumer Reports had a article in best wines for the money.

DOn, thanks for the contribution.

Raven, that would be sweet if you could find that article...

Give South African wines a taste if you're looking for something a little out-of-the-ordinary. My favorite bottle is a Zonnenbloem cabernet. Under 10 and fantastic.

AUS, Redbank - old paddock, 2002 Shiraz/Cab $10 and great for the price, can stand up to a nice cut of meat or heavy sausce. wine guy at the local shop recomended it to me as one of those "drinks as well as $20-$30 wines" that they like so say. well worht the $10 risk, have seen on sale for as low as $8.

found the WS review - Wine Spectator 9/15/04 87 pts Bright and juicy, a lively mouthful of blueberry, currant and cedary spice flavors, finishing dry but with a sweet, creamy note. An attractive wine from the first sip. Drink now through 2008. 6,800 cases imported.

My vote for cheap but good drinkables would have to be two (2) Aussie reds....Yellowtail Merlot (look for the 2002) and Gumdale Shiraz....oh yeah and ANYTHING from Penfolds

I just came across another spanish wine that is cheap (6 bucks bottle)and very drinkable. It is called castillo de monseran.
Goes great with pizza or spaghetti. It is not very complex but its enjoyable and far from offensive like some cheap wine can be.

Don Coyote, you are are full of it. How else would you know about the bad wines if you've never tried them? "I only drink a wine if it if less than $12 and I performed months of exhaustive research." You never drink wine in a restaurant or bar? I'm happy I'm rich; I can waste money on cheap wines and dog rockets with a Habano label.

Pmpimpbura, you are right... Buzz kill.

Oh by the way, I found some more cheap wines. Lost Vineyards has two wines from Argentina a Malbec/Bonarda blend and a Sauvignon Blanc/Chenin Blanc for $2. Two buck chuck has company.

Tried an over the top wine yesterday called Treana. It retails for about 35 bucks a bottle but can be had for cheaper if you look around. Very big paso robles blend. They call it a table wine but its as big as any old vine zin I have had recently. Its 14.5 and easy drinking if that tells you anything.
