I know the thread has gotten kinda old, but I just drank a bottle of Spanish red tonight that I got free (I pay off my favorite wine store owner with Fuentes!). The bottle retails for under 10 bucks and it is called "Wrongo Dongo" from the Jumilla region of Spain. Here is a review I found of it online:

Wrongo Dongo 2003
Only $9.99 per bottle

Wrongo Dongo is an expression for which Jorge Ordonez, the importer has become famous. The translation is: "You are very wrong, my friend!" This was the first wine I tasted when I arrived in Spain and it was the first one I remembered when I arrived back home two weeks later. And it wasn't because of the name. It was because of its great concentration of red and black fruits, as well as its luxuriant texture. It is a blend of mostly Mourvedre, with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. This should be everybody's house red wine. Buy it by the case...because it will sell fast! Dongo to the party without it!

I'm buying a case soon.

Bolla Soave Classico Tufaie '02 (750 ML)

http://www.bevmo.com/productinfo.asp?area=home&seref=froogle&pf_id=00000071900

The decription makes my mouth water, I wonder if its as good as it sounds, too bad they don't have it at the local shop :-(

I agree, but why is it three bucks at Trader Joe's?

It's not 3bucks at all Trader Joes. The website says it's because of distribution, but I think they think they can just take advantage of us on the Best Coast....

Out of the 2buckchucks, my fav is the Shiraz.

Go Beavs!

Best white wine for the buck:

Domain de Pouy 2001 - it's a French wine that will explode in your mouth. Fresh, tart and crisp with a slight oak influence, and very complex. You'll think, hey this is a great 20 dollar bottle of wine. Wrong! How about 6 bucks??

Best red wine for the buck:

Borsao (Spanish red) - woof! this one will smack you in the face. Fresh red fruits and a hit of tannin and equally complex as the Pouy. great value at 6 bucks as well!!

Both are on the dry side, just to let you know. Try them, you won't be sorry and feel free to contribute some of your faves as well to this thread.

You should try Marques de Arienzo(rioja).

I see that red truck stuff all over stores near my house. I guess I should give it a shot. I am drinking a lot of italian and spanish wines lately Montepulciano de abruzzo, rioja, berbera, etc. Great stuff and much cheaper than their french counterparts.

I probably drink 2-3 bottles per week of any of these wines on a regular basis.

Good stuff, well spoken.
