Heading to San Diego (Solana Beach) this week for work. Anyone know any cigar friendly places there?

Warm Texas evening, comfy chair on the deck, 3 fingers of Wild Turkey, dog at my feet, and a good cigar. It doesn't get any better!

Solana Beach is one of the anti-smoking capitols of the state. Nearby in Del Mar, however, is a fabulous place to smoke....if I were you, head to the Il Fornaio restaurant atop Del Mar Plaza (15th and Del Mar Heights Road)--there is a wonderful, outdoor patio where you can smoke along with a view to the ocean. If you do not bring your own smokes, Il Fornaio has an outdoor wine bar (I believe it is called Enoteca) that sells cigars as well....on weekends, they even have free, live jazz--not sure if this is offered year round or only during the summer months--you can call ahead to Il Fornaio and check with them(BTW, a decent Italian restaurant that will also bring your food and wine to your outdoor table on the patio while you are smoking).

Forgot to add, also in Del Mar, there is a cigar shop not too far from Del Mar Plaza that sells cigars and wines.....it's in the general vicinity of Bully's and En Fuego restaurants on Del Mar Heights Road.....no more than 2-3 blocks from Del Mar Plaza.

Joel;

For restaurants/drinks, check out Poseidon (Del Mar)--killer bar right on the ocean with killer viewers, especially at sunset. It is located next door to Jake's, a classic seafood restaurant.

In Solana Beach, there is a wonderful California/French restaurant called Blanca-- a very swanky restaurant right on Highway 101.

Ended up only going out one night. We had dinner at Market in Del Mar. Wow is all I can say. It was truly amazing! Didn't even smoke a cigar while I was there.

Going back the week after next but will be staying in downtown San Diego this time around. Going to do my best to try out one of the above mentioned places this time!

Joel:

Great place for you to smoke downtown is the rooftop of the new Hard Rock Hotel. You will have to bring your own, but head to the pool deck on the 4th floor--very nice, and very cigarfriendly.

If you forget, a few blocks up the street on 5th Avenue is the Cuban Cigar Factory retail store.

Just got back from San Diego (I work for a Member of Congress who represents north county-Solana Beach etc). If you get out there and want to take a drive, try Cigars Vera Cruz in San Marcos. They have Padron 80, 40, 64, Anejo, Opus X, ESG etc. The owner is amazing. Also is planning on putting in a beer and wine bar.
