With the new ban in D.C. does anyone know where you can go for a good smoke? Any cigar clubs of note? Since January my business trips there have been cigar-less. Not good!

I too have two trips to DC coming up and the last time I was there was the night before the ban was to take effect. I'd love to know if there is anywhere in DC or the National Capitol Region where I can go and enjoy a smoke.
Only real cigar bar downtown is Shelley's, 1331 F Street, NW. Some bars have outdoor smoking areas, but you need to check. Some Northen Virginia bars and restaurants still have smoking bars--Morton's, J Gilberts in McLean; the Tavern in Great Falls, others I am sure. Bill

Granted it was 25 years ago, but when I was in college there were a lot of sidewalk bars/cafe's along Pensylvania Avenue newr GW as well as up on M Street that were cigar friendly outside? Is this still the case? I remember Mr. Henry's on PA Ave.
Is Georgetown Tobacco still one of the best places in the city?

There is a good chance that it isn't anymore, in spite of Mr Bourdain's proclivity for tobacco.
Other than Shelly's and perhaps some random outdoor venues, not many places come to mind. You can check with the Grand Hyatt to see if Butler's is still smoke friendly. I reccomend the Capitol Grille in Tyson's Corner.
The last article I read on the ban in the Washington Post said the establishment had to earn 10% or more revenue from tobacco sales.
I doubt many, if any, hotels qualify for such an exemption. There should be a list somewhere, maybe on the district's own site, of places claiming to be exempt.

GTown Tobacco is a nice shop, but I have not been impressed with their staff or prices @ either the GTown or Tysons Corner shops.
W Curtis Draper downtown is a really nice shop, but its difficult to become a preferred customer there. There are so many long standing large customers there and they do so much volume.
John B Hayes in Fair Lakes is a good shop. Their prices are right, their service is good, especially if you have a chance to talk to Matt Hayes who runs the place.
Old VA Tobacco in Pentagon City is excellent as long as you avoid the manager there who is a world class douchebag.
There are a few places with an official exemption. One is Ozio's (I think that's how it's spelled) near DuPont Circle. It's more of a nightclub/lounge but does have a menu.
It's about as good a night spot as you'll find in DC - which isn't saying very much. A lot of local wannabe hip-hop kids, Congressional aides drinking Jager and letting their hair down, and a decent gay contingent. They have some sort of dress code which the bouncers rigorously enforce, but if your shirt is tucked in, you're wearing something other than sneakers, or you're a woman, you shouldn't have any trouble.

haha! exactly my experience. i once had a long conversation with the sales assistant in georgetown and ended up spending $150 on an ashtray, along with a few cigars. the very next week the same guy refused to sell me a single cigar as i didn't have id on me. i was 30 years old at the time.
never had a problem at their store in tysons, though.
