I have hade The Balvenie Double Wood Scotch and it is a smooth scotch but not quite to my liking.

I have 7 bottles of The Glenlivit 12-year-old scotch that one of my patients keeps bringing me. I have given away several bottles. To me it tastes like iodine.

I prefer Lagavulin 16-year-old and Bowmore Marnier, both Islay malts

Doc ***** Tobacco is a filthy weed, I like it...

maybe your patient is trying to poison you. i dont know too much about scotch since im new to it, but i think glenlivet is pretty damn good. feel free to send me a bottle any time. as for lagavulin and the bowmore, ill have to try them as well. of course my next buy will have to be balvenie since it was recommended. my local store doesnt have it so ill have to go online. got any cheap sites to suggest?

Doc, I agree with you 200% ! The Lagavulin is my Top 1 scotch, followed by Talisker and Ardberg.

The Balvenie Double wood is a really decent single malt. SPTCIGARS... I think the one thing you will find is that, like with cigars, individual taste is everything. I can drink laphroig like its water. Its very smoky, and peaty, and iodiney... my brother on the other hand who loves a harsh bourbon twice a week.. cant stand it. I thought he was gonna love it..but alas.. that is why these are such great hobbies. DOC... LOVE the Lagavulin myself and Flashman, if you ever have the opportunity try the Ardbeg Uigeadail(sp?) or the Ardbeg Airigh Nam Beist. They are both out of this world. Was introduced to Ardbeg by a fellow rugby player whom I met randomly at a bar in NYC with some of my buddies. It was a rough night, but man that stuff was like a drop of heaven.

Cheers

They're probably just saying that to discourage scotch amateurs who are not "in the know"...

Seriously though, it is without a doubt one of the best, most underrated single malts out there. A very masculine style whisky. And with a pale colour that is very distinctive (no caramel colouring...)

I would sell my mother for a case of these. Well, maybe not MY mother. But I would definetely sell yours. (just kidding...)

I buy a lot of my stuff from www.shoppersvineyard.com .. join(for free) and get weekly emails of incredible sales. Best selection of single malts and blends i have seen this side of the hudson river. Chivas is actually ok in my book. Also, Johnnie Walker Green is top notch and not bad for about $44. It is true to most palates that Single Malts are more complex and thus more enticing then a blend. But there are certainly blends out there that are spot on. JW Green in my opinion is soooo much better then the JW Blue and about 1/4 the price. Glenlivet is also a definate quality dram. I had some 12 year old on Saturday. The Ardbeg is definately TOP NOTCH and the description is also somewhat correct.. but remember.. its not like you are chewing seaweed.. these are hints of flavor.. to me..more like the sea air as I drink it. But thats just me.

I've had the Glenlivit 12 yr., JW Black, and Chivas 12 yr. I guess it's just my personal tastes, but I really enjoyed the Chivas and really didn't enjoy either of the other two. I know it's asking a lot, but based off of these three are there any other good scotches that anyone would recommend?

did you just bogard my post by asking for recommends? look above. these guys got all kinds of suggestions. or how about my post regarding belvenie double wood. there's a suggestion. if you have enjoyed the blended chivas and not the single malt, maybe try other blended scotch's.

hey pittsmoker.. no need to apologize. I think SPT may owe you a tad bit of an apology. I am somewhat of a newbie on here.. but I dont think in anyway his questions where out of line SPT. He simply wanted to know some other good recommendations... kind of like you did. Pitt I may suggest a JW Green label.. its about $42-46 and personally I think its one of the best blends out there. I may also suggest something called Isle of Skye.. I had at it once at a friends house and thought it was quite good. Have not seen it since.. but it was definately worthy of another future dram....I hope that helps.. and good luck in your search to discover new things that you like..

Cheers

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll have plenty of opportunities to try some with a cigar over the next couple of months.

c;mon, i was just harrassing the guy. pitt, no offense. drinking and smoking cigars are what friends to and im here to be a friend. if you cant harrass your friends what fun is it. pitt, you find any good blends let me know. as for now, im against them. i know i shouldnt be b/c there are plenty out there better than chivas. im sticking to the single malts.

no offense taken spt. I don't think people should get worked up on here unless it's getting excited over a really good smoke. if I find a blended that's really good i'll let you know.

thats why I only said a "tad bit of an apology" I didnt think you meant it maliciously.. just wanted to make sure that pitt understood that he can ask anything and receive some friendly advice or suggestions. Lets all raise a glass of whatever it is we drink.. for me tonight.. it will be Laphroig 30 year old.. (only about 2 drams left sadly) and toast to good times...
cheers
