I will be there on business in a couple of months.
Where are the places for great food and great smokes ?
I seem to remember an old CA article on Manny's being a great steakhouse.

Any other recommendations ?

thanx

I like all kinds of food as long as its good. Fancy schmancy is great, but I have also been known to eat at some dives with really good food.

thanx

Well, the best Italian Sandwich (veal and chicken) that you will ever have is at a little place near little Italy called California Sandwiches. All the cabbies know the place it has been around for decades and I a have been eating there for about 20 years now. It's on a street called Claremont, just west of Bathurst off Dundas. If you want sit down eatin the best Greek food in town is at Astoria on the danforth. You can either take a taxi, or the TTC (subway). Depending on where you are coming from, get to Bloor station and go East. Get off at Chester Station. Astoria is right across the street. Great Souvlaki in the heart of Greektown... also there is a great dessert place just down from it called Dimitri's they make their own ice creme and everything is fresh... good eatin!!! As for steak (cuz I saw you mention it above) you could go to Ruth Chris on University Ave., but if it were me, I would save my money and go to Le Biftech in the Sharaton Centre on Queen Street, right across from Toronto City Hall. They have great prices and excellent steak IMHO. Also the atmosphere is very nice, semi-dressy dining. You can get here anyway you want (it's central) from the Eaton Centre (big ugly mall downtown) head West on Queen Street to City hall the Sheraton Centre is right across the street.

That should give you some ideas... I love T.O. if you have any questions/requests just drop a line I will respond as soon as I can.

Toronto can be a great town. For cigar smoking, checkout the rooftop lounge at the hotel around the corener from the La Case Del Habano (I forget the name, but the store clerks can direct you). Wonderful view of the city and great desser/after dinner drinks. For steaks, I still like good old Mortons. FYI-last time in Toronto I drank $8.00 stoli martinis at Mortons. The next night my freinds dragged me to a place caled Harbor 60 near the sjydome. Frggin $18.00 for the same martini! As an American, ask before your drink or when the bill comes you will be in for a rude surprise! Otherwise, great town nice people, clean, fun, safe. What more could one ask? Oh, yeah--fewer sin taxes!!!

I've been a cop in Toronto for almost 30 years, e-mail me for info on good quality cigars in Toronto. There are only a handful of Tobacconists that I trust. By the way, Toronto just went smoke free in June so you may want to call ahead to see which places have "private clubs" which cater to smokers.

E-mail.....skydiver_8ATexcite.com (don't forget to replace the AT with @ in the address, just trying to keep the spam down) Wink
