hey sheepshead i don,t think you would want to go back to that theater in valley stream, if you know what i mean. i went to a drive in once back in 86 or 87 a friend of mine found one out in shirley long island. wm floyd pkway and montauk hiway. for those of you familar with the area.
The good ol' days weren't always good, but I sure do miss the drive-ins of my childhood. We had at least 3 in town here, all gone now. My favorite was "The 99" just off the 99 freeway. Big light-blue screen with "The 99" and a bunch of stars in huge white stylish neon-lit script. Replaced with a mini-storage place, which Lord knows are in terribly short supply.
In 8th grade, in another town, my friends and I got a bunch of plums from the trees on the street, some dried split peas from one mom's kitchen, and walked across the street to The Hi-Way drive in where ET was showing. Threw the plums at the screen, blew the peas at people through straws, and turned up all the vacant speakers in the place. Oh, yeah, we were regular hellions.
The next year, saw Rocky III at The Crest, laying on the roof of my older cousin's Buick. Spilled a large tub of popcorn into the car all over his future wife, but she was cool about it.
The Sunset was on the other side of town, didn't go there much, but aptly named.
The normal M.O. was lawn chairs and sleeping bags in back of the Chevy pickup.
Thanks for the thread. Good times...

On My way to Weir's Beach, NH this weekend for the holiday's. We'll be staying at a beach house with friends who have kids my daughter's age. I suggested that we take all of the kids to the Weir's Beach Drive-in on Saturday to see Monster's vs. Alien's. The adult's were more excited than the little one's! Everyone has a duty. I'm in charge of packaging the popcorn, my buddy is in charge of liquid refreshments, kid's and adult, the ladies are responsible for food stuff and the kid's are responsible for getting themselves in their PJ's. I can't wait.I'll report back.

I wonder if your allowed to smoke cigars in a drive in. After all it is open space. You are in your car or have they banned it there too.

The Drive-In was great! The kid's had a wonderful time. The evening was made even better when I was handed a Monte #4 by my buddy Curtis. We pulled out the lawn chairs, sparked up the cigars, sat back and enjoyed the stars, movie and good friends.

Just found out there is one down the street from where I live. Went to see Up there with the girl last weekend, took the dog. Double feature, Up and Star Trek, $8 a ticket, so $4 a film, and had our own drinks. Can't be beat.
I've also been to the one Grouch0 mentioned. saw an M. Might Shyamalan movie, Signs, but the projector quality was poor and it was a really dark shapeless film anyway so it was mostly dark shapes moving on the screen... disappointing.

There is one still open in Maryville, TN, close to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I haven't been to it, but back in the mid 70's when I was in college, my fraternity would have "culture" night and we would load up as many as we could into pick up trucks and go watch porn at the Dixie-Lee drive in. It is closed now. We sat in lawn chairs, drank beer and smoked cigars. Great fun....
