I happened to be in Vermont yesterday and happened to stumble across a drive-in theater that was still in business (Sunset Drive- In, Colchester, VT.) I can't tell you the last time I was at a drive-in. Some of my fondest memories as a child with my family were had at the local drive-in. Also, as a teen-some of my first "moves" were made at the drive-in. So, I have three questions;

When was the last time you were at a drive-in;
Wjat did you see;
Do you have a drive-in story that you would like to share.

Also, if there's a drive-in around your way-please share the location.

There is still an operating drive-in at the Deaerborn/Detroit border. The Wyoming is located at Michigan and Wyoming. The last movie I saw at a drive-in was a re-release of the Exorcist a hundred years ago. My cousins were parked a few rows up. One of my friends and I were at the movie. We decided to throw a scare into my cousins, so when the part when the room starts to shake, we crept up and started jumping on the back bumper to rock the van. All 4 of them piled out on the verge of screaming.

The website http://www.drive-ins.com/ lists drive ins for each state. Sadly, they are becoming a rarity. Only about 6 or 7 left in NC.

The last movie I saw at a drive-in...

The original Star Wars movie in the summer of '77 at the Skyway Drive-in in Bluefield, WV. I was just a kid...my uncle and his girlfriend at the time took me and his girlfriend's little brother.

There is still a drive-in open at Pipestem, WV about 20 miles from where I live now. I know of a few more that are open within 90 minute drive.

As the summer approaches I am making plans to take my daughter to her first drive-in movie. I decided to revisit this thread and ask again about your memories of the drive-in. Of course, if you still have one open near you-please share the location.

Thanks

Took my family about 4 years ago. They are annoying as hell. Tiny speaker hanging off the window or tuning into a cheap AM station. Rent the DVD, relax on the couch. Stop the movie when you have to piss.

As a teenager they were only good for getting drunk.

There is a drive-in about 45 miles from me. Its in a town called Newton, IA right off of I-80. They always play two shows for the price of one. WE went two nights last summer and saw The Simpsons Movie, Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, Ironman and something else that I cant remember right now.

The only evidence around here to prove they existed are those big ass screens.

Date: The summer of 1953

Movie: The Court Jester with Danny Kaye

Place: Somewhere in Upstate New York.

I was in summer camp and the camp took groups of kids to the drive in in the back of a pick-up truck (No seatbelts, not even seats)

Amazing what stands out in your mind.

There is still one in Mansfield CT, near UCONN.

Last movie I remember was Dick Van Dyke in Lt Robinson Crusoe USN and John Wayne in McLintock.
