my favorite beer is probably an IPA, love a nice snappy beer with plenty of body. I've had on and off results with hoppy beer and cigars and wondered if anyone had a favorite smoke that went well.

I've been drinking Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA lately with my cigars, and find it goes well with full-bodied cigars like Tatuaje, LFD Double Ligero, etc.

Agreed! Try those cigars with a DFH 120 Minute IPA, DFH Burton Baton, DFH Immort Ale, when they're available. Full-bodied cigars are also good with most barleywines...DFH Olde School Barleywine comes out in November.

BTW...Dogfish Head is my favorite beer...the Punkin' Ale is a nice, drinkable Octoberfest beer, if you can find it...my favorite beer for fall football tailgates with a nice cigar...

I completely agree. I just picked up two cases of the Punkin Ale...I have a feeling it isn't going to last too long though.

No it doesn't last long. I missed out on it last year. This past weekend, I just happened to be at the only store that carries DFH within 100 miles of where I live...scored a case of it myself...the last one they had...left them a few single bottles on the shelf for others to enjoy.

In case you need more detailed help...

Step 1 - Pick your favorite IPA.
Step 2 - Pick your favorite full bodied smoke.
Step 3 - ENJOY!!!

Pretty much that easy. I have found pretty much all hoppy IPA's seem to pair pretty well with the spicy nature of a full bodied stick.

On a slightly related note, the other day I even made a margarita and paired it with a medium bodied smoke and thought it went well. Granted my margaritas are pretty strong. Not sure how a fuller bodied smoke would have been though. Might have to experiment ;-)

After reading this post I had to try the Dogfish Head Punkin Ale. I was a little apprehensive never having tried a "pumpkin beer" WOW! Great stuff. Love their IPA's as well. Local grocery has a TON of Punkin Ale...looks like I'm going back there soon Wink

As far as hoppy beers go, my absolute favorite is New Holland's Mad Hatter IPA. Seriously, try it Wink

I personally don't like really hoppy beers with cigars, but I can see the Punkin Ale being good. I'll give it a shot.

Right now my all time favorite seasonals are out and both go very well with a cigar, IMO.

1) Great Lakes Nosferatu; tastey, not overwhelming, with nice carmel and malt flavors, but high ABV that sneaks up on you.

2) Sierra Nevada Hop Harvest; the 2007 was simply the best beer I've ever had. You could taste every hop, complex, powerful, but not to the point where you feel like they just dumped in hops to have more in the brew..

I love Sierra Nevada beers but have never found the Hop Harvest in my area...from the sound of it, I would love it.

Don't know if you've tried them or not, but if you're a "hop-head" like me, Stone's makes some tremendous beers. Their IPA, Arrogant Bastard Ale, and Ruination Ale are three of my favorites. Also, their Vertical Epic Ale, an annual release, is quite impressive.

Yeah, usually if you bug your local beer shop they can get it in for you. I had to do that last time I moved Big Grin.

I go back and forth on stone stuff... Just had the Arrogant Bastard and I'm going to have to try it again, but first pass it was just too malty and wet.
