I have a small collection of Scotches, several single malts from the different regions as well as a couple blends such as Dewars 12 yr. I was wondering if there was some sort of method for pairing different strength cigars with scotches from different regions, or if anybody has a tip on what pairs extremely well with what? For instance I bought the Laphroaig 10 when I started out, and it still sits minus only a couple ounces since I can't take the peat reek. Maybe I just haven't found the right cigar for it? Please help.

Try a Partagas SD4 or a Cuaba Exclusivos with the Laphroaig these seem to go quiet well. One of the other Islay malts with a little less iodine are easier to pair. Ardbeg and Lagavulin are both favourites.

Do a search for some of my past posts - I have posted a number of pairings that I have found good. I have a sizable malt collection and enjoy the experimentation.

Some malts like Highland Park will go well with a very strng cigar, but others you have to be more careful with.

Hope my past posts help...

Diss- I enjoyed the Dalmore, I was pleasantly suprised.

A few pairings that I have enjoyed:
Laphroaig10 with a Camacho 11/18.

Dewers12 and other blends with a VSG.

Lagavulin15 and a FF OpusX.

Glenmorangie with a Don Carlos.

Laphroaig15 with a Camacho 07/05

Hell, I seem to enjoy most pairings if I like them individually, but these will get repeat business. Smile

Smoke it.

I'll give it a try (once I'm through with the Oban). Thanks.

Dalmore Cigar Malt goes - in my oppinion - with almost any kind of cigar except maybe the mildest ones.

Kreiner - same goes for the standard Dalmore 10/12. Goes great with every cigar I have tried (I think!). I am sure the cigar malt is just a rebadged standard one..... Never found a bottle to enable me to test this theory though.

I was just down in Newport, RI since wed. watching the UBS Trophy regatta. I brought down some smokes and 2 bottles of the Dalmore cigar malt. I liked it and it went well with......
Cuesta Rey Centenario Maduro
Rocky Patel Vintage 1990
Oliva "O" Maduro
Punch Rare Corojo
Cuban RyJ No.10's in the tube

I also had an incredible Port down there. Barros 1977 Vintage Colheita. I wish I could afford to keep that on hand.

Try that Laphroaig 10 with a RyJ robusto EL.

Viper - Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Mind you, whatever you like is fine.

However Laphroaig is incredibly phenolic, and drowns the RyJ Robusto EL - I have tried this very combo.

Having said that I am not a massive fan of the Islay whiskies. If it works for you that's fine, but I would not recommend it to a recent malt drinker as a combo.
