Since there has been so much talk about Champagne on here lately i thought i would share my tasting notes with you on Pol Roger's 1996 Extra cuvee de reserve (in short brut). I looked this up and in the states you can find this champagne for about $45-$55. Up here i got it for $69.

Tasting notes:
Clear with a pale yellow colour leading to a white rim. Tiny bubbles with a nice bead.
Clean, smells of apples and fresh dough. lots of sweetness detected.
Dry with nice soft feeling small bubbles. Lots of residual sugar balancing out the crisp acidity. Apples, honey, smokeyness and a starfruit citus twang are all noted on the palate. Excelent length that goes on and on.
*****

This Champagne is fantastic for the price. Its dry but has a real sweetness to it. Definitly a bargain vintage champagne. The only downside is my glass went flat insanely fast, I found my self drinking this quite quickly because the bottle was going flat.

Flatness is not good...not on wimmins nor champagne...do you think it was a storage issue?

I find that a clean glass helps in stablizing the bubbles don't you.

Also holding the glass by the stem keeps the glass clean from the buffalo wing grease and hot sauce.

And you thought it was to keep the wine cold, silly.

Nice review. Sounds too sweet for my taste.

Out of one, many.

I guess its possible its a storage issue. I just wrote it off as part of the wine. im not sure what would make the wine get so flat fast (storage wise). When i opened the bottle it was very bubbly.

hydrogoat, couldnt say i have drank from a dirty champagne glass.

BTW, dre, love the avatar. I wonder if Grapes was ever referring to bubbly when he mentioned having a few "pops" with the boys on Hockey Night in Canada...

Nah, he was probably talkin' about Sleemans.
