I have seen quite a few of you discussing the virtues of Chimay beer. It is not available in my province but I recently did some travelling so I thought I'd pick some up.
I bought 2 bottles of the blue label Chimay. I did notice on the back of the bottle that they suggest using a special glass to drink the beer in. My question is what do you guys drink the beer out of and what differences in taste will I encounter if I don't have that style of glass?

I don't know if the site I used for the picture is legit or not, but the picture is. If you can find something similar, go for it. You should also hand wash them, too, so as not to defile the glass with unsavory dishwashing detergent residue.
You should also pray over every glass.
If you like Chimay, try to get a hold of a beer called Delirium Nocturnum. Awesome beer. Rochefort 10 is also incredible.

The Chimay Blue label is incredible. Enjoy. The Chimay glasses are also worth getting. I had 4 but 2 broke, as they are bloody fragile.
The Chimay Red is also very nice. Forget the Chimay white, blaa!
In Ontario our LCBO carries quite a nice selection of beers, but they are usually seasonal. I would expect PEI liquor stores to have a similar selection.
As Cor said the Rochefort 8 and 10 are unreal. Also try Duvel, Orval, Westmalle Triple, and Aventinus Ice Bock.

Thanks for the info guys. Unfortunetly Steve, the PEILCC blows ass. You have to keep in mind though that the PEI government has just legalized cans and plastic containers for pop. Ya I know, I'm not joking. On May 3rd it will now be legal to sell Pepsi in a can or plastic bottle.
I picked up the Chimay in Nova Scotia along with my usual purchases of HC7 and HC anejo to fill up the liquor cabinet. Makes the 40 bucks to cross the bridge worth it.

I don't like the fruity characteristics of the red. The white, however, is very good with a cigar -- it's not quite as sweet as the other two.

Ratebeer suggest a trappist glass (pictured in Coriolanus post), a tulip or as tumbler. I have one of the trappist glasses I use. It is awesome beer, but I always buy the 22 oz bottle and unless I have a buddy over, I must be resigned to staying put and drinking the whole thing myself. It's almost like drinking 4-5 regular beers given the 9%ABV.

Well I'm half way through a large bottle of Chimay blue and a third of the way through a Punch Punch. I LOVE this Chimay stuff, very port like as had been mentioned. This is the only beer that I have ever drank without being in the fridge to chill that didn't taste like crap. I only worry if I can make it back into the house after this bottle is gone.

Is the 750 ml? Thats like drinking 5 or 6 beers in one sitting.

You da man. Enjoy that prime Trappist ale. There are now a few bars that specialize in Trappist ales in TO, and some have these monster ales on tap. Nothing like a 10% ABV pint of sweet ale.
One of my clients took me to the Bier Market and that was a evening to remember.

I just read in the TO Star this morning that PEI had banned cans for 24 years and beer bottle, other than the local brewery for 35 years.
Starting this morning you can get anything. Welcome to the year 2008!
See my thread in Cigar Talk, it links to the CBC news site. Most people who have had our Pepsi products (bottled locally with superior water) will not enjoy "Mainland" pop afterwards. I guess it won't be the same now. True on the 2008 though, pop is not the only backward thing here.
