I just arrived in Singapore, and will be here for a day or so. Does anyone know of a good cigar bar here, or of a shop where I might purchase a few sticks?

Official cuban importer in Singapore is Pacific Cigar Company. They've a retail shop cum cigar lounge located at River Valley Road. http://www.connoisseurdivan.com/ for details. Will help in future if you post in advance Smile

Try the Oak Cellars at Orchard(or Parade) Hotel for singles. They only really stock the popular sticks but their prices are a fair bit lower than Connoisseur(sorry Hehru). There are a few others but since you're only here for a day or so, I assume that this would be the most convenient store for you.

Olde Cuban's not too bad, if a bit cramped and hard to find for non-locals. It was setup by the ex-GM of Connoisseur Divan.

Interesting. Where's that? It's listed at Trengannu St in YEllow Pages... Is that it?

Do they get their supplies from PCC as well?

Yup, that's it. It's near the Hindu temple, on the 2nd floor of the shophouse.

I have been to Jimmy's place once, but he wasn't there. May drop by sometime next week.

Could any of the Singapore locals comment on duties/customs that would be imposed on a box of cigars if I had it shipped to Singapore while visiting there?

Looking over the Singapore customs site (http://www.customs.gov.sg/leftNav/trad/List+of+Dutiable+Goods.htm) it indicates $352.00 per/kgm - suggesting that the tax would come close to the value of the box of cigars itself?

Can anyone clarify?

You got the tax rate right. However, a stick of cigar is generally about 10gm. Take for example, the Bolivar Royal Corona which is about 11.7gm. Based on the tax rate, you would be paying about S$4.10 per stick for tax. It's not that bad actually considering a stick cost price is about S$15. Excluding shipping, your cost per stick is < S$20 or US$13.

I regularly ship cigars from Switzerland and pay the taxes when I collect them. Sure beats the price the local distributor is charging which is a pure rip off...

Clubhead - thanks for the feedback, I didn't end up executing this plan. A visit to the Olde Cuban hit the spot and was very enjoyable. It had a convenient location near the Chinatown MRT stop and great atmosphere. Drinks are available and you can even order-in food if you desire. The stock was pretty good and the display was one of the finer ones I've seen in Asia-Pacific.

Very interested to find out more from you about importing cigars. Can you pls email me at dungaabbb@yahoo.com?

Tried doing it but found the cost about the same as buying in sg.

Thanks a million.
