Luger's is fantastic. The steaks are amazing but people go also for the "lousy" way the servers treat the guests, especially in the Brooklyn location, which buy the way, is by far the better of the two joints to go to
If you are looking for ambiance, suave servers, a fine wine list - this aint the place. This is a guy's guy kinda joint that is rough not only around the edges but in the center as well. You don't tell the servers what you want they tell you.
Simply put - here is what to order:
Porterhouse for 4 Creamed Spinach Steak Fries Luger's Steak Sauce - amazing stuff Booze - order this first Skip the dessert, order more booze
As mentioned - no credit cards except thier own but I did hear that they take debit cards. Just call ahead of time so not to embarass you or your guests.
Enjoy
PS - Also, one other place that I find almost if not equally as good is Ben Benson's in Manhattan, about 1 block West of Radio City Music Hall off of Ave of the Americas (or 6th Ave for you non-New Yawkas).
You forgot to mention Luger's bacon and shrimp and crab cocktail!
Ben Benson's is weak in comparison, IMHO. Second best in NYC for my money is Sparks. Ben and Jack's is also quite good (two former Luger guys started it up). Always liked S&W as well.
The risk of kicking butt is you get some crap on your shoe
I cant believe no one mentioned Old Homestead steak house on 9th ave and 14th street in Manhattan. The steak is as good as Lugers IMHO.What you don't have to deal with is the arrogant waiters and all credit cards are excepted give it a try.I think you will agree
