James, You sir do a fine job with all the latest from Cuba. I have family and friends who live in Italy that go to Cuba for vacation and love the people and the country and at the same time dislike Castro. It makes me mad as hell to know that I can't go there but I can come and go from China or Venezuela anytime I want and hell they don't really take any better care of there people then Castro and for that matter I can fill my SUV with $4.00 gas from Citgo and most goes to Hugo Chavez. Keep up the good work on the video blog just wish they had been longer!

Just wanted to let you know that I find your blogs, and Articles inspiring. You are truly a gifted and inspired writer, and these days, that is hard to find. You love what you do, and you are damn good at it. You spend time in the field, so people like us can have an eye into what is going on in the cigar industry. Please, continue to write great articles on cigars and the lifestyle that comes with cigars.

You don't get it. I had a really nice conversation with them and they couldn't have been cooler. I urged them to take the cigars and smoke them instead of cutting them up! You should have seen their faces. What a shame.

Sure, I get it, just all in good fun like Flash said. I'm sure those guys probably think the law is a little out of date just like many people. I'm sure they wanted to smoke them, but you know how that goes with supervisors and all. It's a shame that happened, but hopefully that's the last! Unfortunatly, you'll probably be flagged now, don't you think?

No, James isn't going to be flagged now, lol. Good lord, he had a handful of cigars. It's not that big of a deal, as he keeps trying to explain...

I'm sure they wouldn't have taken him to Guantanamo. I'm sure he's not on any black list of travellers. I'm sure his ability to travel won't be mortgaged. I'm sure James knows how to charm the socks off people. All this is quite strictly anecdotal.
However, though the customs guys may have been hunky-dory, I'm also quite sure seizure and destruction of a traveller's illegal possessions requires some sort of paperwork : nature of seized goods ; name of traveller ; event report and action taken. Therefore, chances are he IS in the system now. This could make a difference if, eventually, they catch him again smuggling in "enemy" stuff...

It't not a big deal to us, but as Flasman said, there's going to be something. Usually, when a "crime" is committed, there is some type of paperwork. They have to keep track. Unless, of course, you get a one time free pass. Nobody gets fined what they could be fined, but remember, the penetly per cigar is like $1000 each, right? He had 19 cigars if I'm remembering correctly. That "handful" is theoretically a $19,000 fine. Sure, being an editor of CA and having a pass from OFAC certainly helps lol. Even if he was caught again, I don't think he would get in too much trouble, they would probably just take his cigars away. Let's say I went to Canada, bought CC's and brought them back. The first time they might just destroy them, but if they caught me a second, third, or fourth time, I would probably be in hot water.
I mean, I know if you order online and get caught, they'll certainly be keeping an eye open. I doubt travelling is different.
It would just suck for James if they hold him up at the airport when he travels.

Well, then, that would suck a great deal! Good points.
