"The Good Life Magazine" would be more fitting. What are your thoughts?

I do not think they frankly care about aiming the magazine at women. They have an extremely focused idea of who they want to appeal to -- extremely affluent males. But many magazines are directed at one gender. How many (heterosexual) men read Cosmo? How many women read Maxim? There are some other cigar magazines out there that focus on cigars and not appealing to a certain gender. But at the end of the day, what percentage of cigar smokers (serious enough to read a magazine about cigars) are women? 1%, maybe? Marketing people know their demographics and they help dictate content. If they don't know it, then they get fired.

Either read and enjoy the magazine or don't read and enjoy the magazine. The only people who will feel "alienated" because the sub-title is "the good life magazine for men" are those overly sensitive people who look to be alienated or offended!!!

Women want in everything that's for men. Why not just leave it alone. Damn. Does everything have to be for everybody? It's geared to men, not women. If you want to read it, fine. They've had those pretty paisley shirts. Maybe you'd like those. Cigars appeal mostly to men, not women. The magazine has a very specific focus - the Robb Report that includes a bit of cigar information. Why do women always want to take things away that are just for men. If you see an opening, start a cigar magazine for women. Probably won't make it to the first issue. There are your thoughts.

This forum is for editors, but posts often get tossed around by everyone. If you want to send a private e-mail, David Savona has posted his e-mail address on the forums several times. I think some people are fed up with the idea that EVERYTHING has to be gender-neutral. I think it has gone overboard in some ways.

Agreed. I wouldn't seek to exclude women from anything but cigar smoking is primarily a men's hobby (passion? obsession?) and it's nice in that respect.

Just sick and tired of political correctness. Who cares if it says the magazine is for men. If you like it, read it. If not, leave it alone. And if you took the time to read other posts in this section, most of the responses are not from the Editors.

I hate to say it, but I have to agree with the guys here. There are many times when I feel like I'm imposing on the men's club atmosphere, but that's just me. I know that's what I'm doing, and it was never an effort to take away something from the men. That's just how I am. My husband has gotten me into a lot of things that most people would take as being for men, but we enjoy doing them together. Cigars was one of them. For the longest time, I hid my cigar hobby from the rest of the world, until I realized their were people out there who would be accepting of it. That being said, I try to be very respectful of the men and not impose myself on them and their "time to enjoy being men." But if they invite me into the fold, then I will gladly join them. But without taking over and expecting changes because I'm there. I am not about political correctness. Brenda, I understand your point, but I do happen to think that women are such a small percentage of the cigar smokers that it isn't fair to expect them to change things to suit us.

I would however be curious where that stat comes from?

I am shocked the number is that high. Really surprised. What does that second page of stats mean (MRI)?

I see. So they put out their "in-house" numbers and then an independent company's numbers so potential advertisers can compare the two.

I'm sorry but, that isn't a very good argument. Magazines like Cosmo are for women about "women's" issues like PMS, finding the perfect man, finding the right bikini for summer. Just like, Maxim a guy magazine is all about being a "guy," how to dress like a cool guy, how to pick up chicks and celebs that can pick up chicks. Cigar Aficionado is a magazine primarily about cigars, rating cigars, people who love cigars and the cigar industry. Cigars have nothing to do with reproductive organs. If cigars are for only for men then, someone should tell Cynthia Fuente Suarez. p.s. Cigar Aficionado originally (for about 10 years) didn't have the subtitle "The Good Life Magazine for Men." It's a new thing.
