I recently had the god fortune to aquire the contents of a Dunhill locker. There are quite a few macanudos in this collection but a few stand out. They have a VERY basic red band that has the words "Macanudo/Jamaica" on the front and the bands sides have the word "dunhill" on both sides....This cigar has been a mystery for me as no one I have spoken to knows anything about a dunhill commissioned macanudo. I would like to know when they were in production, and if they are a rare as I believe they are. Thank you for your time
I spoke to the folks at General Cigar, makers of Macanudo, and they tell me that they used to make a Macanudo specifically for Dunhill. The cigars were made in General's Kingston, Jamaica, factory, which is now closed. General stopped making those special Macanudos in the mid 1990s, so they are a rare find. It also sounds like they have at least 10 years of age on them, so I'm sure they're quite good, especially if they were properly stored.

I think I may have seen those "Dunhill Macanudos" once. I used to shop at an outlet mall called Woodbury Commons just outside of NYC over the Tappan Zee in Central Valley. They had a Dunhill clothing store there that kept a cigar cabinet, I guess to maintain a connection with the brand. In the late 90s, when the cigar boom came to an end, I was there and they were blowing out their lefotover stock at something like 50% or 60% off retail. I picked up a box of Dunhill 1989 Cabrera tubos and I think a box of Hoyo Excalibur that had a sticker on the box that said something like "Specially Selected for Dunhill." Anyway, I think I remember the Macs but for the price I went with the Cabreras instead. I should have bought more.
