Your discussion of the Cuban Hoyo Double Corona rung a bell with me. 1996, I smoked one. Never had I smoked a more perfect cigar. The flavor, the smoke, and the texture, brought me to a near state of nirvana. Since, no other cigar has matched those characteristics. I felt, and still feel like Prince Charming looking for that perfect foot that will fill the slipper that was left behind.
I'm not sure which editor this was meant for, but I'm glad the Hoyo rating struck such a chord with you! I remember my first Hoyo DC as well, which I smoked not long after joining the magazine in 1995. It was a tremendous smoke, loaded with amazing flavors. Welcome to the club!

I too found the HDM Double Corona to be the best cigar I have ever smoked. I enjoyed mine on a rooftop during a warm summer evening overlooking a beautiful sunset on Lake Michigan. I currently have one in my humidor which I picked up last Nov. during a trip to Paris. Can't wait to see if it tastes as good as I remember.
