I see CA rather like I do Playboy--only with naked cigars rather than naked women. And at least the cigars in CA aren't airbrushed and computer-altered to a point they no longer resemble the cigar next door.

This month's issue is a perfect example...glance at the $3000 canoe, skim through the article on Spanish wine and straight to pg 151, where all the hardcore cigar action starts. I could take the magazine rip out pages from 1-150 and be happy.

On a different topic, screw Alec Baldwin. He's a pompous jackass who's full of himself and condescending. Just my $0.02!

It was interesting, yesterday. I was in the local cigar store and they were discussing Cigar Aficionado, as I was purchasing my copy.

They were commenting on how the only good thing about it is the reviews on occasion and the coupons that make an appearance from time to time. They were very displeased with how it has taken a swerve towards a GQ style of magazine rather than a cigar magazine.

Also, a lady I've been chatting with lately, on an instant messenger, doesn't agree with something that's been going on. She has a background meshed with cigars in her family. She's always enjoyed cigars, and used to always subscribe. She quit when the subtitle appeared, noting the magazine is for men. She has been put off by this ever since. I never really noticed that before.

I guess a lot of people are displeased with some current issues with the magazine's direction. I like an occasion Rich Boys Toys story, but not constantly. The other parts of the magazine are stellar. I really enjoy a lot of the cigar-focused stories.

I wonder if anyone of importance (not that we're not important, just you know) is reading this post??? I don't recall seeing any feedback.

That all is just my 2 cents.

Well Frank, if they have read this (and I'm sure at least Savona has) nobody has commented on it. I'm torn between cancelling my subscription on principle or missing out on the reviews, cigar news etc. I think the best way to let them know is to just keep pointing out the absurdity of the articles in the magazine. If this is the longest post in the Dear Editors forum, it will make our point. Hell, Savona might be doing OK financially but I'm sure he can't afford half the stuff he writes about! Now I'm off to schedule a NetJet to take me to my private carribean island for a high stakes poker game with Alec Baldwin...

one last comment, Marvin can afford all of this stuff in the magazine and Im sure he has final say on the content. Dont forget he spent 575,000 on a friggin Humidor at an auction.

take out all the sports articles and you won't have much of magazine. Eek

i don't mind reading about actors and other such celebs who happen to smoke cigars, but at least have one portion of their articles talk about their favorites.

as for the "toys" and other expensive stuff in the magazine, i could car f*ckin' less. and how about making the cover read "CIGAR aficionado" again instead of "cigar AFICIONADO"? ironic huh?

get back to the original point of the magazine marv!

CA should be 95% cigars and 5% of the "good" stuff in life. Because it is predominately a Cigar magazine, and Cigars are the "GOOD" life for most of the people that read the magazine anyway, what would be the problem with supplying the customers with what they really want? We aren't on these posts because we drive $450,000 cars.

Looks like the next issue will feature Sharon Stone...makes 5 out of 7 with a Hollywood connection on the cover. Another CA obsession that's difficult to fathom. What exactly does Hollywood have to do with either the good life or cigars (although I'll admit the FFCoppola articly was worth reading).

Like most companies, they advertise to the top 3% of the world that owns 97% of the money. Unfortunately for us, we are not one of those 3%.

Ads run a magazine, but the stories on the latest Ferrari or personal Jets are not neccesary in the quantity that they are currently in the Mag.

Although they should change now while they still can before the future cigar magazine takes their thunder away, I doubt that CA will do that.

I do recall a useful article in CA about finding ‘inner peace’ (it was right there with the ‘How to Maintain Your Own Ferrari for Less than $300 a Day’ article), and it sure had some good comments/suggestions. It sure has worked for me ...and at this time of Political wrangling we all could use a little peace and........ calm!!!

By following some simple advice I read in an article, I have finally found inner peace .......... the article reads:

" The way to achieve inner peace is to simply finish all the things you've started."

I looked around the house to see all the things I had started and not finished......... Man was I amazed. So before starting anything new this morning I finished off four bottles of red wine, a bottle of Jordan Cuvee left over from Halloween, the Bailey's, a just opened bottle of Grand Marnier liqueur, a half-full bottle of Kahlua and Tia Maria, my ladies Prozac, some valium, two half bottles of Cabo Wabo Anejo and one El Tesoro de Don Felipe Silver, a Romero y Julieta Churchill from last night, the last three OpusX's in the humi and a box of chocolates. You have no idea how freakin' good I feel this very moment......... You may pass this on to those you feel are in need of a little ‘Inner Peace……….’

Now where did I put the keys to that friggin’ Lamborghini…..?

the ONLY thing that will change the contents of the magazine is money and the lack thereof. if enough people stop subscribing to it then they will realize how many dumb ass articles are in it and go back to being a cigar magazine. if WE as cigar smokers keep giving in then they will keep pouring out a magazine with golf, gambling and expensive car stories every month. Roll Eyes

i for one am letting my subscription go. Big Grin it's not worth the money anymore. hopefully one day i can sign back up when the they talk more about cigars.

Hello, I tend to agree with don juan. I sincerely hope CA revises their format in the near future.

I like life. I like the finer things in life. I guess that is why I enjoy smoking cigars. To me, Cigar Aficionado embodies exactly that - the finer things in life.

While I buy the magazine to learn more about cigars, their ratings, fine liquors that go with each type of cigar, etc - I also enjoy reading about exotic locations to smoke cigars in, nice cars that will carry me to the cigar shop, etc. Please stop complaining about Cigar Aficionado not producing a "cigar only" information magazine - it is quite a bit more than that. I personally would like to thank this magazine for helping me in my pursuit of the good things in life! Keep it up.

I like the cigar, cigar business, and otherwise cigar related articles. I also enjoy the "good life" articles, but there seems to be a little too much on gambling (gambling's OK, it just appears a little too much in the mag). I wouldn't mind some articles on how us poor slobs can live like a million without having it...

I agree with algernon - more articles on historical figures (that famous cigar man, US Grant or Howard Cosell), literature, art, music, maybe even politics - maybe.
