Ok, I know what you're thinking already. But hear me out. Cigar Clan magazine, which is European, has done a great job of including females into their magazine. Women are editors and are featured in photos, articles and the like. And not in an overt way, either. In a legitimate way. Even your tag line "The Good Life Magazine for Men" is a bit outdated. I realize you know who your core demographic is. I know it, too. But a couple of pages an issue wouldn't hurt, either.

I know I'd prefer a little "female content" Wink Wink to the reviews of the latest line of corporate jets or $1,000 watches!

I think CA should definitely add a centerfold and photo shoot with some women posing with cigars.

"Cuban seed tobaccos grown in Nicaragua and Cuba. The wrapper would be from Cuba. The binder leaves would be from Nicaragua. For the ligero tobacco in the filler, he would use two types, one from Esteli and the other from Jalapa in Nicaragua. The other filler components, seco and viso, would come from Cuba, the former from Villa Clara, the latter from Pinar del Rio. That Cigar, he says with pride, would score 100 points."

This isn't exactly what I meant... but I will admit the Demi Moore issue was great.

It just seems to me -- not that I think it's a good thing -- that CA is a bit like a Men's Club. With, for women, it's advantages : a window into their heads ; and disadvantages : a feeling of exclusion. By trying to cater directly to women, perhaps it would lose it's nature...

Look at these forums, for example, with a few exceptions (like GreenDragon), women do not seem to last here for more than 20 posts. Would a "Women's Section" help ? I'm not sure...

Personally, I don't think I would enjoy women's content in CA. If I want to read a magazine with women's content, I'll grab Comso or one of the other 1000 magazines dedicated to all things women. But CA is designed as "The good life magazine for men." Yes, I would love to see more articles about cigars and less about the other things (that's another thread), but it doesn't change the fact that the magazine is geared toward men.

As a guy, I have nothing against women at all. I even managed to get one of 'em to marry me! LOL But there are times I want to hang with the guys without the women around.

Personally, I feel that if a someone feels excluded from a magazine (or anything else) because they cater to a specific group, let that person go and form their own magazine and cater to whomever they wish. I wish them the best of luck and much success!

I'm not referring to clothes, makeup or what have you that appears in Cosmo. I am referring to having a female writer, for instance. Or, if CA has a feature on watches (which they do, what, every other edition?) then they should also show at least one women's watch. It's the complete EXCLUSION of women as anything other than eye candy that is short sighted. Plenty of women smoke cigars, too, and pretending they don't doesn't change that fact. I highly recommend that you take a look at any European cigar magazine and you'll see what I mean- the editors, cigar reviewers and writers are also women. When they have a picture with people smoking cigars, there is usually a woman in it (a CLOTHED woman). I could go on, but you get my point. I am not asking for overt female content, simply that women are no longer overlooked as readers and cigar smokers by Cigar Aficionado.

No, I don't think so. Besides, then there would just be two of us in there! =) I think a general vibe that we are all "siblings" of the leaf is enough. There's no need to compartmentalize women into their own section.

it would be nice L0venpeace to have something for the SOTL's out there but it might alienate the core demographic that CA has always aimed for

id like to see it but i doubt it will happen

My appoligies as I mistook what you meant by your postings. By all means, female cigar smokers should be welcomed as long as the content is conducive <sp?> to the subject matter. I'm sure there are plenty of female cigar smokers that are just, if not more, educated about cigars than some of their male counterparts.

I'm all for it. A balanced opinion in writings can never hurt. I mean really, who wants to read about Tom Beringer? (Well, I don't)

On another note:

I see Fumeeworld has some Dunhills. Is your site working correctly? I receive errors in IE when I click on the link.

We do have Dunhills.

Suddenly, tonight we starting having errors in IE. Seems to work fine in Firefox or any other browser. I am working on fixing it, which is why I am still up at 3 AM. =)

Hi Heather,

You post would be taken a lot more seriously if there were 20+ active women on the CA forum, who participated in the wide range of forum topics and started interesting threads.

Unfortunately this is not the case, and according to the majority of male smokers on the CA forum, their wives detest their cigar smoking, and will not participate in their habit.

Kind of like NASCAR. It's a male thing, the smell of gasoline, burning rubber, screaming fast cars, and beer (and women in bikinis). Yea there are a few female drivers, but they are considered anomalies.

But, having said that, 25 years ago there were very few women in corporate America, and the latest Fortune magazine clearly shows that these boundaries are falling fast. Very impressive list of the 50 most powerful women in America, and the name brand companies that they run, or are members of the executive team.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not sure you've been reading our magazine very closely. Many of our cover stories are written by a female writer, Betsy Model. She also writes for this website.

Just to name a few, she's done stories on:

Tom Berenger
David Caruso
Jimmy Smits
Kurt Russell
Antonio Banderas

Before you post that it would be nice that we employed a female writer, you should probably check out the facts.

But thanks for the post.

It does, sadly.

And David, I'm pleased for you that you find one female writer satisfactory. I however, do not.

You have not been reading my posts thoroughly. That is merely one example I gave.

If you would like to debate me point by point that CA is a magazine that embraces female cigar smokers as well, you are welcome to, but we all know that you would be wasting your time. It is clear to everyone that has posted on this thread that it does not. Just look at the aforementioned tag line.

Cheers,

Heather Haddad

May I also point out that according to your own website none of the things Betsy writes are cigar related content, but are only celebrity interviews.

I am merely suggesting an opinion that I feel will better your magazine. If you are not interested in hearing it, well then, "them's the facts." I suppose it just furthers my point.
