I have a Thompson lucky 7s humidor that will hold 200 sticks. My problem is i regulate temp and humidity well and this box seems to let my smokes get dull.I put some good sticks in here and months later the flavor is not the same.I live on a hill above a lake if that helps.Should i just get another humidor?Any responses will be greatly appreciated.
Well sorry for the late reply, but if you still have it and are familiar with it when you baught it. Make sure it is spanish cedar for the inlay as that is the best or even an african cedar i hear. But if you think it is the air where you live, which i do not think that should be it but, keep the humidor in a large zip lock bag if its not for show of course. That should seal it better, or try putting something heavy on the top of it as maybe its the seal of the humidor. Try it let me know
Hi Chief, Thanks for the reply.I think my problem has been minor temp fluctuations in my house.Nothing bad enought to cause beetles but maybe enought to shock a stogie.I have decided to buy and convert a wine cooler as an answer to my problem.I think this will bring the flavors back out.Sound good?
minor temp changes dont make sense to me for this...I would be more concerned about the wood not being spanish cedar...also because im curious what types of cigars are becoming dull?

ya i think i am of the same opinion with toomanycolors, it shouldnt really be the temp, as I have had many in different temps, almost as a test for myself and the temp really didnt affect the cigars i tried. Although the temps were not too hot or cold. I really think its the humidor you have and it may not have spanish cedar in it or something got in it and has spoiled the seal or wood. Your idea of the wine cooler is good of course depends how many cigars you have as that will be a big but good humidor. There are many out there you can buy in stores or on line for a decent price and will be reliable as well. I have a very large and more antique humidor and was lined with spanish cedar and sealed well, but not too tight as I do want some circulation in there. I have a large capacity humidification system that works well with it also. So hope that helps and gives you some clue as what to do. Make sure you get someone professional to do the humidor. As i have had too many people do their own and wasted their money and everyone said i should have just bought one or got a professional to do it.
Im sure its spanish cedar in the humi.Probably not the best quality but its real.It seems to make my Boli belicoso finos dull while my Monte 2 and 4s are ok.I am doing the coolidor myself but i do have a great idea of how to condition it and i have a good carpenter to plane me some shelves so i really think im on the right track here. And my collection is growing to the point i have to do this.
Im still not convinced on the cause there has to be something going on that no one can put their fingers on...but if you need the coolerador for the added space do it, bound to happen at some point anyway
