CI Legends Red Label by Perdomo
5.75” x 54
Nicaraguan Sun Grown Maduro Wrapper
Nicaraguan Filler
Appearance and Construction ( 12 out of 15 points)
This is a 5.75 x 54 Torpedo that is very well rolled. It’s completely round, not slightly pressed like some torpedoes, and tapers nicely to a very sharp point at the cap. This stick is covered in a dark brown sun grown maduro wrapper that is very consistent in appearance.
Flavor (22 out of 25 points)
This cigar started of great. The first 2 inches were an explosion of that earthy maduro flavor I get from other Nicaraguan cigars such as an Olivas or Padrons. A nice chocolate undertone was present throughout the cigar as well. However, after the first 2 inches it mellowed considerably, and that explosion of flavor went away. To be fair, this is still a young cigar. I think it would benefit greatly from a few months in the humidor.
Smoking Characteristics (20 out of 25 points)
The construction of this stick was top notch, and it cut beautifully. The pre light draw was a little tight though. The burn began uneven, but it corrected itself about a quarter of the way in and was even until the end. I didn’t get as much smoke as I would have liked, mostly due to the tight draw. I massaged it a bit toward the cap, but it did not help. Again, this would have benefited from some age.
Overall (31 out of 35 points)
This stick started off great. I loved the first 2 inches, and it was on par with most other maduros I’ve enjoyed. Although the flavor was excellent at the beginning, nothing about it would make me leave my Olivas or Torano Exodus in the humi when I needed a maduro. I’m going to hang onto the other one I have and do another review in 6 months or so. I think it’ll age well.
Overall score 85
