I tried the Tatuaje Havana VI Verucu Zona Del Este, but found it was too strong and in particular too 'spicy' for my tastes.

The Holts catalog describes the Zona as regular Havana VI 'on steroids'. It also describes the regular Havana VI as medium bodied and smooth.

I'm trying to decide whether or not to try the regular Havana VI. Is there a big difference between it and the Zona or are they more or less the same?

Just found this, which I guess answers my question. Still I wouldn't mind hearing from someone who has smoked both.

"The previous releases of Tatuaje Havana VI ... are not quite as powerful .... They are made without ligero, the strongest form of filler tobacco. The Verocus will be the first Tatuaje Reds made with ligero, to dial up the strength."

I find them both to be full body strong smokes but never harsh. The first inch of so of the cigar is the strongest in my opinion. Then it seems to settle down.Lots of red pepper notes creamy thick smoke.

SB,

Thanks, from my single experience I agree about pepper notes especially in the first part of the smoke. So the zona is pretty similar to the regular Havan VI?

BTW, if you take your handle from Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn that's where I did one of my open water dives for scuba certification years and years ago.

Yes SteveH i grew up In Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn when i was a kid.

I find not much of a difference between the two cigars.
I think the Zona is a good compliment to a special meal or occasion the flavors are more refined they just don't jump out at you like the Havana VI.
Which ever one you choose i think you will like it.
Hope this helps.
