The Robusto Larga is crafted in Honduras and is 6 inches long with a ring gauge of 54. It was purchased at the local cigar shop and smoked within an hour of purchase. It was purchased at $5.10 + tax but can be bought on the Internet for approx. $69.00 for a box of twenty or about $3.45 each.
Presentation: The Robusto Larga is an attractive cigar on the shelves of the walk-in humidor. It comes wrapped in white tissue paper with the band on the outside of the paper. It has a nice fragrance, nothing spectacular, but nice. The wrapper is dark with an oily appearance. The Robusto Larga is a bit veiny which takes away a little from the appearance.
Start: The Robusto Larga lit well, burned evenly and had a nice, easy draw. It is a bold cigar that started off mild to medium more on the medium side. The ring size was a little bigger than what I normally smoke and took a little getting used to (made me feel a little dirty, but I kept remembering that “sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
Middle: The Robusto Larga continued to burn evenly with an easy draw. As the cigar burnt down further the flavor went from medium to strong.
End: The cigar ended well and was smoked down to the ¾ mark. It ended pretty strong but left a nice aftertaste in the mouth.
Overview: The El Rey Del Mundo Robusto Larga is a good cigar and well worth the price. It is a cigar that I often give to others during trades because it is consistently good. On a scale from one to ten I would rate the El Rey Del Mundo Robusto Larga a 7.1.

I agree, I think they are a very good smoke. They are very consistent.
...as to the notion of excess, I don't give much thought to it except to say that I never smoke while I'm sleeping, and I never smoke more than one cigar at a time while I'm awake.

I may pick up a box of those too. I have the Robustos and although I just bought them, they are stamped November 2002 on the bottom - so they have a little age. They are so good!

I love the rectangulares. One of my favorite non-cubans. Only problem I have is when I order them from Cigars International they come dry and the wrappers split when I cut them (i have a sharp cutter). Any sites you guys may know of that they come in good shape?

The ERDM Robusto is probably my favorite smoke. I usualy let them sit for a few to several months before I touch them. My only complaint is the tissue paper they come wrapped in. It is under the band so the band is loose if you take the paper off before storing it. Not a big problem. Well worth the $$$ I usually have not problem getting them from JR. Though I do pay the extra few $$ to have them sent 2nd day.

Just a note, Lew talks about them often because he owns a piece of the company. The Flor de Lavonda is named for his wife. That aside, they are great smokes and resonably priced. The Robusto/Larga/Suprema are my favs.
Incidentally, I won the ERDM/JR's story contest writing a story about a special box of Robusto Supremas. Got a nice humi, a box of Robusto Zavallas and a box of Flor de Llanezas.

I enjoyed this smoke quite a bit- my first El Rey larga robusto maduro of many to come.
Beautiful, dark satin sheen to the cigar. I thought I was going to get beat up by the cigar's robust flavor brfore lighting. Pre-light, the construction was great, and I was wowed by how beautiful the wrapper looked
Initially, the burn was a bit uneven. This corrected about 1/3 of the way into the cigar. The uneven burn returned during the last 1/3, but no canoeing or tunneling. The uneven burn was a mere cosmetic event.
Flavorwise, I did not know what to expect. The wrapper was dark and glistening. I was expecting a dark, somber smoke with a major buzz factor. I was surprised at the coffee and caramel I found. A tiny hint of dry grass, not unpleasant at all- would probably do well with a while (year?) in the humi.
About 1/3 in, I started noticing a beautiful cream and caramel had added to the mix. The grass was all gone. The last 1/2 of the cigar tasted like a double shot latte with maybe a bit of caramel. A delightful after-dinner relaxation in the beautiful late-summer cool evening. I got a slight, pleasant buzz, which I welcomed.
I believe I paid about $5 for this smoke at a local shop as a single. Blew away the Padron I smoked last night.
Great Cigar - I will buy a box and hide them in the back of the humi for a year or so, if I can make myself forget they are there.
