I just finished smoking this robusto given to me by M10REN, so I thought I would write my first review.
Construction-This was a good looking cigar. It was a nice color, and was slightly veiny. It was good and firm. During the smoke it had a very tight white ash. It was some of the prettiest ash I have seen.
Taste-I would say this was a medium bodied cigar. It started off kind of like cedar and a strong coffee with a slight hint of spice. I like it very much. Towards the end the spicy taste seemed to go away and at the very end it had a very slight hint of acidity, I could only taste it if I really paid attention. It was not enough to bother me.
Overall-I liked this cigar. I could see getting this in my humidor. I wouldn't buy a box but a few every now and then would be good.
Grade-B-.
I would like some input on this review. It is my first and I am thinking about doing one or two a week. If I should change my way of doing it let me know.
I tried the 1990 version of the rocky patel and boy , what a smoke. I have to say i felt it had some sort of weak start for a cigar of this caliber. but 5 min into it.....the flavors began to develop. it was like opening a christmas present but very slowly....very slowly. hard to contain the emotions though. definitely a medium body, very velvety on the palate, and faint hints of exotic spices. I have not tried the 1992 yet, however i'll probably do an A B soon to see how things stand.

Agreed. Both the 90 and 92s are great. Had a 92 last week at the Smoke Shop and enjoyed it thoroughly. A little expensive but well worth the extra coin. I usually keep a couple of Rockys in the Humidor for a rainy day.

After trying these at my local cigar bar, I actually bought a box of the Churchills. I usually don't splurge for a whole box, getting 5 packs, mostly. But this cigar tasted so good, it was worth it. It's an exceedingly smooth, medium-bodied cigar. The Robusto 1992 Vintages are as good. (A few came as a freebie with the box from Holt's...)

i had one of these the other day. im not necessarily a connoisseur but i know what i like. i respected how well made it was. beautiful draw, almost spotlessly even burn. but it just wasnt my type flavorwise. but lets just say, it was made perfectly.

I have tried both and am a big fan of the 90 and the 92! Does anyone know if he(they) claim the tobacco is from some type of storage from those years? I would find that hard to beleive!
This was one of my first favorites. It taught me a lot about the various complexities and subtleties of a good cigar. To this day, I turn to the RP juniors (both 90 and 92) for a good short smoke of about 15-20 minutes. The juniors just got a terrible rating in CA, but I can't understand why. My experience with them has been nothing but good.

Hey there FrankLuke, I see you're a neighbor. I'm a Worcester native, but one smart enough to leave. (OK, just joking. It's cheaper here but my parents and sis still live there.)
Anyhow, I've smoked the aforementioned RP's, and while they are a great smoke, I guess I'm overly sensitive to the politics behind the sticks. I met RP at Victory Cigar one night, and let's just say it'll be a rare day he adds to his retirment fund from my pocket.

OK OK OK I cant take it any more I want to try this Rocky Patel stuff. Which one should I try I like my Robusto sizes or Rothschild. Give me a suggestion and I will put it to the test.

According to the advertising card next to them at the local B&M, the 1990 has a 12 yr aged wrapper, and the 1992 has a 10 yr aged wrapper.

I have bought a box of the 1990 and 92 and really enjoy both, but I honestly cannot tell the difference between the seconds and firsts. One or two may have a cosmetic flaw, but 40 bucks compared to 140...
"Cuban seed tobaccos grown in Nicaragua and Cuba. The wrapper would be from Cuba. The binder leaves would be from Nicaragua. For the ligero tobacco in the filler, he would use two types, one from Esteli and the other from Jalapa in Nicaragua.
