No, no, Wu's had favorites before, I just can't remember what they are off the top of my head. But when he declares a favorite, you better take notice.
Been smoking these cigars for the past few months, a couple sticks a month, and tonight I decided to see if they had been reviewed before. Kind of shocked at the previous posts, I happen to love these things. Made me wonder if what I smoked tonight was the same thing everyone else was smoking.
First off, the cigar looks beautiful. It was covered in a veiny, toothy brown wrapper that was more oily than a 350 pound man after 5 hours of racquetball. The cigar had a marbled appearance with blackened oily areas mixed throughout the brown Ecuadorian wrapper. I didnt bother trying to punch this cigar, I just used my trusty guillotine clip to cut it and the cut was very clean. This cigar was a chore to light, requiring at least 10 matches; something I have found to be common with chisel shaped cigars. Once lit however, it had a smooth, controlled draw that emitted plumes of thick smoke. The burn was great throughout, only once in the very beginning did I apply a match to the cigar to correct an uneven burn (probably cause by me not lighting it properly in the first place) and after the relight it burned great throughout. Some Double Ligeros I have had in the past have experienced uneven burns, so its kind of hit or miss.
Flavorwise I found this cigar to be great, and I can't understand the posts calling it bland and tasteless. This was a full-bodied smoke in my opinion, though I wouldn't argue with those who would classify it as medium-full. It was packed with spice, and contained notes of coffee and nuts throughout. The spice was not overwhelming like the Litto Gomez Diez line, but it still packed a nice punch. Though the flavor of the cigar didnt change much as the cigar progessed, it was surprisingly complex throughout for a relatively inexpensive cigar. Smoked this one down close to a nub and the draw didn't get hot at all. The finish was a little lighter and sweeter than the rest of the cigar, and was very pleasant in my opinion.
Overall I think for the money this is a fabulous smoke, definately one of my favorites "bargains" along with Don Pepin Garcia and the Camacho Corojo. Sure it isnt as flavorful or complex as the more expensive OpusX's, RP Olde World Reserves, or Padron Anniversaries, but it also costs significantly less. I actually prefer this to the more expensive Litto Gomez Diez, because it is more subtle while having the same good qualities. Definately would recommend this cigar.
I thought that even the one I smoked with a year on it was pretty poor. Maybe 2 years is the magic number. Who wants to age a cigar 2 years in the chance that it might be smokeable?

I personally find the "La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero," [Natural], Chisel 54 X 6 1/4 for under $8.00 a stick a REAL Bargin and a Great Smoke! I have found myself smoking these cigars on a fairly regular basis.
I can't image folks not liking these, but again every one tastes are different.
