The Fonseca Predilicto is apparently made only for Mike’s Cigars out of Miami and is available online, by catalog and in the retail store. It is reasonably priced at about $65.00 per box of 25. They are packed in a heavy, varnished cedar chest, five rows of five cigars, each in cellophane with a cedar wrap. The blend features a Cameroon wrapper with a Connecticut Broadleaf binder and a filler from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic.
I have now sampled one and one half boxes of these cigars and I am very impressed. I have yet to encounter a cigar that did not burn perfectly and all have had a fine draw. The wrappers are smooth, toothy and oily. The caps have all been well applied and cut cleanly. In short, the construction is top drawer.
As to the flavor, this cigar is a Cameroon lover’s dream. Cameroon has a delicate, mildly spicy, mildly sweet flavor that can easily become overcome if the filler blend is allowed to dominate. That is not the case here. The cigar produces a fine volume of smoke and the distinct Cameroon flavor shines through. But, there is also a wonderful complexity to this cigar as numerous, mellow undertones develop as the cigar is smoked. The flavor is medium bodied, but has a lot of flavor with a nice finish. It also smokes very clean. Generally, I prefer heavy bodied cigars, but the Predilicto has so much flavor that it has won me over. In profile, its flavor is much like the vaunted H. Upmann Vintage Cameroon, but more mellow and somewhat more complex.
A great cigar is always pleasure to discover. The Fonseca Predilicto is a bargain at its suggested retail, but to cap it off, this cigar is often offered at sale prices. A real winner, especially in the face of much higher priced, but disappointing offerings from other makers. 92 Rating.
