Yeah, I got the DVD and the two cigars. What can I say; I’m a sucker for a documentary on cigars and a new vitola, especially a FFOX.
Perlman’s says that this cigar has 41 ring gauge, but I disagree…
Fuente Fuente Opus X Forbidden X – 7.5 x 38 (tubos)
Appearance and construction (12 of 15 points possible)
This uber-panetela looked a little rough. The wrapper looked thin and it was bumpy, not toothy, but bumpy. However the cap was a work of art, very Cuban, with a little pigtail at the end. The stick was firm which began to concern me, because I thought “how could they blend 5 tobaccos in this panatela w/o draw problems”. My worries were quickly assuaged when I clipped it and took a pre-light draw. Amazingly it had a very easy draw.
Flavor (23 of 25 points possible)
Very nice flavors were present. Strong cedar notes were present throughout the smoke. The cigar was peppery (black) at the start but diminished as I smoked it down further. Mild cocoa notes built throughout the smoke, then turning into a stronger mocha then coffee flavors were strong at the end. I also detected some nutmeg around the halfway point which took me a while to identify. Also there was some tobacco flavor which became more prominent at the finish.
Smoking Characteristics (24 of 25)
This cigar was a pleasure to smoke. Tons of smoke and it burned relatively quick with an almost dead-even burn. The draw was always nice and easy which again was a surprise considering all the different tobacco that is supposed to be stuffed in these puppies. It did warm up a little bit at the end, but hey, it’s a 38! I didn’t count that against the final score. My only complaint was the ash: It was a bit flaky and after I lit it, it opened up like those creatures in “Tremors”.
Overall Impression (31 of 35)
Very nice cigar. Excellent presentation, wrapped in cedar in a glass tube made me very eager to smoke this bad boy. To me this didn’t pack the same punch as the Power Ranger, but it was still a full-bodied smoke. Is it worth what I paid for it? No. But I still dug it, daddy-o. I figure I paid 20 bucks for the DVD and 15 for each of the cigars, so it’s not such an expensive cigar (if you look at it that way). Give this gift set a whirl if you have 50 bucks to p!ss away.
Overall – 90
Oh, I give the DVD 5 stars, very informative. although i would have liked to see more on cigar rolling...
My girlfriend just bought me that set as a present. The set looks so good I almost don’t want to smoke em! Let me ask you, did you take them out of the glass tubes and put them in your humidor or were they set to go straight out of the tube?
They are in the Humi now but I AM a bit of a noob. I know metal tubes don’t do squat (sometimes make it worse depending on how they were packaged/handled), and glass tubes only help for a little while. It seems like a pretty nice seal but I’m just not sure.
I bought the set when they had the Reserva'D Chateau (churchill/DC) took them out of the glass tubes and let them rest for about 2 weeks, then myself and a friend enjoyed them after golfing. What a smoke, wish I could find them for less than 30-35 a pop

dd, the first one i smoked i left in the tube. it should be at the proper rH inside the tube. however it will not age properly. the second stick i have taken out and plan to age.
Thanks guys I appreciate the info. With that in mind I think I'll take them out of the tubes and let them age for a couple months.
I’m not sure if it is proper noob Etiquette, but if its all right I'll go ahead and post a review when I smoke em. (I did a search for Etiquette and most of the hits were in the Cuban forum relating to sources and such)
I’ve been interested in cigars for some time but the last year I have been getting really into it. I do a lot of my ordering over the Internet but I have managed to find a couple decent places. Tobacconists Of Raleigh on Capital Blvd. is pretty decent. Of course I’ve been to a handful of Smoker Friendly’s. The place I am really interested in trying is K & S cigars in Cary. Its pretty sad I haven’t made it there yet as I’m only two miles down the road but I’ve heard they were good. That’s about it for the Raleigh-Cary area. Of course, I’m always open to suggestions.
Not sure if you monitoring this thread but thanks a ton for the source. I finally made it over today. What a shop! Nice people too. We'll have to get together sometime and fire one up!
