OK this is my second review on this cigar, the first was posted below in NCC Forums:

Smileposted September 26, 2004 01:42 AM
I just finished smoking the Padilla Stogie sent me. I'm not sure which it was. A little help Stogie?

It was different, sure it looked good but the real surprise came later when I lit it.

It was a robusto sized cigar. It was sporting a milk chocolate colored wrapper that had some faint wispy stripes on it. It had finely grained tooth and looked good.

It was well constructed, held an ash well with no flaking. Prelight draw told me nothing about the flavor to come.

I lit it and on the first few puffs I tasted olives. Yes, olives. At first I thought it was just an odd flavor from the initial light that gave me a weird taste, but after a few more puffs there were definitely notes of olives. It wasn't a salty or briny taste, but more like olive oil, that rich almost fruity olive aroma.

I passed it to my girlfriend without saying a word to her about the flavor. She took a few puffs and said it tasted sort of like pickles, with a flavor almost like a "deli." When I mentioned my olive observations she agreed, but thought it leaned more to the "pickle end" of the spectrum.

As the initial tastes faded in the mouth there were oak flavors coming through. The olive notes continued throughout the cigar, though faded a bit and it became more of oak/toasty profile.

I liked it. It wasn't something I'd run right out and buy a box of, but the taste was distinctive. I see how people who like Padillas rave about them, they really have a different flavor that is unlike any other cigar.

I would say this is a must-try cigar. I'd give it an unofficial two thumbs up because it was so unique and anytime I smoke something truly different in cigars, it has my undivided attention. Razz

Today I have smoked a second one and it was pretty much the same as the first. The "Olive" flavors I noted in my initial review seemed a bit more herbal this time. Other than that my initial review stands but this time I am adding another thumb for an unprecedented 3 thumbs up!

Appearance: 9 Great looking cigar, reminds me of the wrapper on Cuban MC#2's.

Construction: 9 No problems and draw was generous without smoking hot.

Flavor: 9 Great flavor that is truly unique. Rare in the market today.

Value: 9 Price is good for what you get.

Overall: 9 This is a solid package. Two cigars later I am a new Padilla wh0r3 just like Stogie!

Based on what I've been hearing about this stick I purchased a 5 pack about a month ago. Finally got around to trying one, wow, great cigar. I noted a caperish flavor like above, but I also found mouthfuls of cayanne pepper (the flavor, not the feeling Big Grin), a warm toasted sourdough flavor (thats a good thing), and a very creamy texture in the smoke. Overall, it reminded me of a CAO Criollo but much less sweet, with far better construction, and no harshness. I have 4 left in the humidor but I'll likely be purchasing a box.

I agree these are great cigars. I also enjoyed the natural and Maduro lines as well. The construction on these are top notch and every one I had, has looked absolutely wonderful. I'll pick up some 5-packs next month.

Dang, I'm gonna have to try these cigars. I feel like I'm missing out of some secret club or something. The robusto is the size to go for huh?

The robusto was the best one out of the sampler that I had. I would go with it.

Smokie, do you really, really want to try one? If so shoot me an E-mail at stogemiester@yahoo.com. I think I still have one or two with some age on them. I just got a new box about two weeks ago and they look better than the first ones I had. The wrappers look darker and more oily than before, Mmmmm. Big Grin Damn Smoke, today may be your lucky day because I Gotz some Maduro Padillas also. Let me know. Wink
