Appearance and construction (15 of 15 points possible)
Construction was really superb. Silky smooth wrapper. Almost velvety to the touch. Not too firm, but not too soft. Silky brown wrapper, and a nice firm cap.
Flavor (21 of 25 possible points)
The flavor was nice. It was a smooth, and creamy. Tasted hints of cedar, nuts, and leather. It did have a TINY bit of metallic taste at first but that quickly went away. Near the end of the cigar I was tasting some fruity overtones. Would have scored higher here but it was not a flavor bomb. Not dull in anyway, and did have nice flavor but not bursting with flavor.
Smoking Characteristics (23 of 25 points possible)
Burn was a little bit ragged at first but settled down after the first inch or so and was great from there on out. Draw was perfect. Smooth but not loose. Nice grey/white ash that held for a few inches.
Overall Impression (32 of 35 points possible)
Very smooth creamy smoke that has a wonderful feel and taste. Medium-Full body leaning to the medium side. I would mainly characterize it as a Smooth creamy smoke, not harsh in anyway shape or form. Wonderful all around smoke. Might be a bit high in price ( I paid $10 at the local brick and mortar) but a darn good stogie. Reccomended.
I love these, it's one of the few boxes i've bought. Though, I think you may have overpayed a bit. I bought a box of the DCs (actually Churchill size) for $70. If you find a better source (judging by price only), they could really be a staple. I would completely agree with your ratings.
On a related note, I haven't been a fan of AVO's for too terribly long but was wondering if the signature line, Legacy line and the old 75th anniversary line were all the same blend. Any info would be appreciated.
yeah I did overpay a bit. They were new to the store, and there prices are high anyway, but I like supporting them. I buy singles from them but boxes online.
I'm not sure about the 75th Anniversary cigar but I don't think the Signature and Legacy are anywhere near the same blend. That's not first hand knowledge of what goes into the filler or binder, but based on the flavor. The Legacy seems to be to be a richer, more complex flavor with strong chocolate notes. There may be others on this board who have a better understanding of the actual blend of these cigars who can add a more objective view.

I just ordered 2 boxes of AVO Signature Robustos for my humidor. I'm glad to read that these are really excellent smokes. I am looking forward to smoking them all.
I never really got into these. The metallic taste was always too present for me to enjoy. Maybe some time in the humi may take care of that, but it'll be a long time before I guy another.

What do you mean when you say that a cigar has a metalic taste to it? I never encountered a cigar with a metalic taste in it. Please explain to me what you mean by a cigar having a metalic taste to it.

You just have to see for yourself. I have never had a metallic tasting signature. I had a camacho SLR that tasted like metal and a few other sticks too. I think overall AVO is a pretty good brand and the signature is one of the better avos.
