Grabbed one of these in between classes at school today.

Appearance and construction 14/15
Great looking cigar. Nice oily reddish brown wrapper. The construction was even and solid. The clip was clean. Prelight aroma was similar to a cuesta rey centro fino but a little sharper.

Flavor 15/25
This cigar is a little firecracker. It started strong with overbearing cedar and woodsy flavors and some harshness. It got significanly better as it burned down.

Smoking characteristics 24/25
NIce even burn, Good smoke volume. Did heat up a little.

Overall 28/35
Didn't do it for me personally but I can see how some people would like them.

total 81

I think Rocky has some of the best cigars on the market. The Rocky Sun Grown is very similar to the 1992 IMO. I have a box of the Toro size and love them. In fact, I had one last night on my way to the store. Medium to full bodied with a little bit of a bite from the wrapper.

I don't find any similarities between the sungrown and the 92. For one thing one is a spicy cedary sungrown and one is a sweet cocoaey maduro. But that is just my take. I think the 92 blows the SG away personally.

great review PMP! Sorry you had a bad cigar. I guess I'll stick with the 92s.

I'm with you pmp, the 92's are entirely different than the sungrowns. I've only smoked a couple of the sungrowns so far, but they have been harsh and the draw to easy for me...

Don't disagree with pmp's flavour profile differences; however, I tend to prefer the spicey, pepper in my smokes. This could be because I usally drink sweeter cognacs and ports with my RP Sun Grown. These are a personal favorite daily kinda smoke for me.
To each his own, huh?

PAParick, I hear ya. I like the JDN celebracions very much with port. They have that spicy peppery flavor profile with a hint of sweetness and go well with port.
