I have been smoking a lot of different smokes in the past few weeks to expand my cigar knowledge. I picked this one up as it is a name I had often seen but had never smoked. I probably won't smoke another, not due to being unpleasant so much, but this just isn't my type of smoke.
The cigar is the epitome of cigar- pale Conneticut wrapper, classic shape, length, and ring gauge, almost cartoonlike in appearance. The cigar I pulled had a couple of prominent veins in the wrapper.
After cutting the end, the pre-light was non-eventful. Neither the wrapper nor the filler had any distinct aroma or flavor.
I toasted and lit the cigar very easily. Immediately I tasted bitter dirt, maybe a little leather, and a sour after-taste. This cigar is everything I hate about cigars, honestly. Dry, bitter, sour, and no particular flavor to speak of, just distinct characteristics. A faint spiciness appeared about 1/2 into the cigar.
I was bored to death with this cigar and tossed it about 1/2 into the smoke. It didn't make me gag or wince, the cigar was just very boring and one-dimensional. I have smoked far better cigars for about $2.
Mild bodied, medium smoke volume, razor sharp burn, and boring. I am beginning to think that a Conneticut wrapped cigar is just not for me. I want something that is more mello, darker and richer, even for a smoke in the morning.
A waste of 40 minutes and $4. I hesitate to deem a cigar worthless, as there are some people who like this cigar. I didn't like it and would not even accept another one to save someone's feelings. I would probably wince if someone presented one as a gift, to be honest.
