I had this Cuban Monte last night. For about $20 it wasn’t really worth the cash. This is only the second time I have had this smoke and unfortunately I didn’t write down what I thought of it last time. The Monte #4 is a corona size.
Here is my review:
Appearance: Dark brown with a mediocre cap this cigar has a few bumps and medium sized veins. Obviously not a top-notch job putting this together.
Flavor Profile: First impressions of the cigar are great, nice smooth dark chocolate and cedar flavor. Very pronounced. As the cigar burns down I note the perfect burn. Because of the look of the wrapper I was somewhat expecting a poor burn. The flavor doesn’t change at all throughout this smoke, and shows to be quite one-dimensional. As it comes to a conclusion the cigar gets quite harsh on its own. With no re-lights and being a slow smoker it came as quite a surprise.
All in all the smoke was enjoyable. Started off great and slowly gets less exciting. This is the world’s best selling Havana cigar and is widely known to have serious construction problems due to the fact it is made in multiple factories.

I got a box of these last month, need these shorties in preparation for the new enlgand winters when i can't be outside for an hour smoking.
my box was december 04. these smokes get dogged on this and all forums often, i smoke a lot of them because i love the monte flavor and have only run into a handful of plugged monte 4s, which is better than most other Cuban. but i could just be lucky.
as Dre points out, not the prettiest looking smoke and quite frankly, it never is. but the flavor is always great. this box of late 04s is the strongest box of monte 4s i have ever had. i never plow through these anyway, as the flavor is very enjoyable and satisfying so i'm not drawing on it every 5 seconds. but the strength of this box commands a slow smoker. its great.
I must also agree with Dre the the last puffs do get harsh, especially with the strength of this smoke, but a slower draw helped immensely.
to me there are only two PCs worth smoking, this and the boli. and not only are they both worth it, but they are wonderful.
great cigar

Monte #4 was my first Havana 12 years ago and I recently rediscovered the brand. This mareva is the best bang for the buck in the whole line and while I agree it's no looker, it's packed with flavor but not over the top like Partagas Shorts or too mild like Hoyo Petit Robusts. Yeah, (I know, those are different sizes but both are nice 30 minute smokes like the Monte.)
Habanos puts more effort into their coronas than any non-CC maker. If Dominicans could make a corona with this much flavor, we might not be reaching for 5" x 64 ring cigars in between CCs.
Smoked a couple from a '05 box. Not the best in appearance, but still a great smoke. Some plugging, but the cigars seamed a little wet so I'm hoping some rest will help.
In heaven there ain't no beer, that's why I drink it here.
