This is the famed LFD ligero series. The L300 measures 5.75 x 50. As an experiment I decided to smoke this before breakfast to see how strong it really is. Here goes nothing.

Appearance and construction 14/15

The appearance is fantastic. This cigar features a silky smooth ecuadorean sungrown wrapper that is roughly the same shade as an EMS cigar with a slightly reddish hue. The color is completely uniform and the construction, even down to the application of the cap is neat and precise. The prelight aroma is typical sungrown, sharp and spicy with hints of cedar. The construction is slightly spongy on this one. The clip is easy and the draw is a little loose.

Flavor 19/25

The flavor is great. There is very little sweetness to this cigar. It started out dry and tannic. I got mainly black tea flavor with a slightly vegetal finish. It steadily grew into a vanilla flavor with slight espresso and some pepper and raisiny flavors that I find typical with ecuadorean sungrown wrappers. In the middle it was reminiscent of a good centro fino but later on it took on a flavor profile that more closely resembled the Avo signature, slightly sweet and slightly spicy with raisiny/dried fruit component. Like the avo, it also got slightly metallic on the last third but it wasn't enough to ruin the experience.

Smoking characteristics 23/25

The burn was picture perfect with a pure white ash. The draw was effortless and produced a very large smoke volume. I felt like this cigar could have easily been overheated and I had to slow down a few times. Maybe I got an underfilled one but from looking at the ash you certaily couldn't tell. There was a bit of strength here. I got a buzz just past the band and it lasted about an hour. The strength is subtle though, it isn't over the top like the double ligero series. Overall this cigar has a lot more finesse and a better balance of flavor to strength.

Overall 29/35

A decent cigar for those who like a sungrown wrapper but want something reminiscent of that creamy dominican profile. It has aspects of many other cigars like the centro fino, the HSG, and the avo signature. This one is slightly better IMO though. I have smoked a few of these and they seem pretty consistent. Its worth a shot for people who like full bodied sungrown cigars. In that category, it stands out as one of the best I have had regardless of the slightly metallic flavor at the end, which is something I usually detest in my cigars. I also have to state that this cigar was smoked very young and I think it has a lot of potential for aging, perhaps more than most cigars because of its strength.

total 85

After concluding this experiment I think its best not to smoke this cigar for breakfast unless you really like a gnarly buzz. If that is your cup of tea then by all means, go for it. It f'ed me up nice and left a smile on my face for an hour.

I guess I can see the confusion.
