Appearance: Very good appearance on this cigar, near flawless. The color was good very few and small veins. Consistent beautiful color. I took some points off because right under the cap where you could see some separation and glue.
Feel: Great feel, nice and oily. Not to firm and consistent feel throughout. Scent: Had a good scent, did not pick up to much. Just very strong tobacco scent. Pre Light Draw: Again just some nice strong tobacco flavor.
First 1/3rd: This is where the cigar was at its best. Had a little bit of spice and some leather flavors to it. Very thick and creamy.
Second 1/3rd: Pretty much the same but I started to get some very small hints of dark chocolate.
Finish: Very short finish on this one. Subtle leather flavors.
Body: I would rate this as a medium bodied smoke
Draw: The draw was very good a near perfect draw.
Burn: This was the downfall of this (one) smoke. It started off rather small and then got off track. I had to touch it up about the first third. Then about halfway it got worse, it started to tunnel and burned a few centimeters on the inside while the wrapper went no where.
Smoke: Well when this was lit and burning properly it produced tons of thick white smoke.
Ash: Nice solid ash. I think it fell a little early as the torch was thinning out the ash when I was trying to touch up the Burn.
Overall Impression: I have smoked about three prior to this and they were all excellent. I would rate them a lot higher than this.Maybe this was a dud. It had potential but this one stick just did not cut it in a lot of ways. I am going to let them rest some more then do another review in a few weeks.
X2 in regards to the review. I had a churchill last week and tasted alot of a mild spice. The burn, as was in your case, a big let down. The last third, after a couple of re lights, went out the window.

when i first saw the review i did not notice the distinction between the "habana reserve" and the "reserve" and i see it was a ROBUSTO size you reviewed
my question is - do you have any comparison to the "R y J habana reserve TORO" and the "R y J reserve [maduro] TORO" ?

No sorry...I have never has the Reserve Maduro toro. Only the Robusto I think....It was very good from what I can remeber. Two of my favorite sticks from RyJ are the Habana Reserve(robusto & toro) and the RyJ Reserve Maduro Robusto.
Picked up a box of these about a month or so ago in the Churchill size... absolutely stunning looking cigar, beautiful color, just a pleasure to hold.
*But* have had nothing but trouble with the burn... streaky, fussy, tunneling, goes out... you name it. Has to be one of the more disappointing sticks... so much promise unfulfilled. Unfortunately also remarkably consistent between the 4-5 I've smoked so far... put the last one out of its misery after the first 3rd... just didn't have the patience.
I smoke a lot of the Churchhills, I love them and never have had any issues. I alternate them with the Perdomo Habano's. I woulkd say a med to mild smoke. The churchill Perdomo's last 20 minutes longer for the money. Once in awhile I will have the muduro. R&J's about the same price point as Perdomo's. If you want something a hair stronger try the Perdomo CRU line.
