I have been sticking mostly with Padron, Joya de Nicaragua, and Oliva for my main smokes so far.

I have ventured out and purchased a sampler pack from cbid.

I received the following:
3 - Perdomo Edicion de Silvio Double Corona
3 - Gurkha Special-Edition Beast
3 - Graycliff Espresso PG Robusto
3 - CAO 65th Anniversary Moda
3 - Cienfuegos Blazer

I would like anyone's opinion on the above cigars so that I know what to expect and what they are like.

Thanks!

The cienfuegos cigars are a little rough. For me it was a little strong, and not very pleasant. The Guhrka beast was pretty good, but there are a lot of other good Guhrkas out there. even though I think they are a little overpriced. The CAO 65th you ordered is a nice cigar. I like medium bodied cigars. The one I enjoyed the most from your list is the perdomo silva. I have never tried that particular Graycliff. Since you are a Newbie, you can go to my email send me your address and I will send a few for you to try. Happy Holidays

I would venture to guess that your two favorites will be the the CAO and the Graycliff, but necessarily in that order.

Being that you like stronger cigars (JdN) the espresso might suite you a little better, but don't knock the CAO until you try it. I for one enjoyed the "ton ton" and the "moda" I smoked.

Fredriko, I appreciate your comments and your generousity. My uncle likes the Perdomo's, I will be trying those tonight.

Cyrann, I will try the CAO tomorrow night, will let you know how it goes.

while im not a fan of the smokes you picked up...i just wanna suggest trying anything Don Pepin Garcia next...he has his own line (self-titled) but blends for a ton of other lines...Tatuaje, Padilla, San Cristobal, Vegas Cuabans, the list goes on. give them a try next!

Smoking cigars is like drinking wine: everyone has their own taste and opinions. The key is to find what you like. You first need to figure out what type of cigar flavor you like (full bodied, medium, etc.) and then try several varieties of that style flavor. Also, experiment with different sizes and ring gauges to see what suits you. You have a lot of higher end cigars on your list, some of which I have tried. I think the Ghurka's, although a good cigar are overpriced and overated. The Greycliffe is a good cigar, but not worth the $25 some people are paying for them. The Oliva is considered this year's best new cigar on the market, but I smoked an Oliva Series V (which was rated by some as the highest non-Cuban) in this year's ratings, and I was disappointed. Remember, even a very good cigar can have a bad day. My personal favorites for someone who likes a fuller taste and a bigger ring guage is The Partagas Black Label Magnifico and Alec Bradley's The Freak.

You might want to look into the samplers at Holt's with Fuente, Pepin, Padron, etc. in them.

The sampler you got is OK but there's nothing in there that's going to change your life.

Now, a Padron Anniversary or Opus X just might...so, www.holts.com
