Let me tell you all about a cigar that kicked my ass and I didn't expect it too. I got home from work yesterday and after walking the dogs I had an egg sandwich for a quick dinner so I could get to enjoying a cigar. The cigar was a La Flor ligero cabinet. This beauty has a dark oscuro wrapper(still dont know what that is), that was veiny but so damn oily and toothy. The smell was just rich and the cold draw was of rich tobacco with some sweet tones. I lit the cigar and a wonderful sweet heavy aroma filled the air and upon the draw my mouth detected those same tones of rich tobacco that was both heavy and sweet. When this cigar burnt correctly it was wonderful. The draw produced an abundant amount of smoke which sometimes could make the taste overbearing. I smoked this sucker and I've smoked the ligero before but not the cabinet. I didn't think much of it only b/c the wrapper is the only thing that's different. I started to feel woozy about 2inches in. I thought that this is a strong cigar but felt I could make it through. Well... I didn't. I couldn't. I was done. Smoked about 1/2 to 3/4 of the cigar and I just couldn't smoke it anymore. Don't know what it was, maybe I didn't eat enough or just wasn't ready for the cigar and the vesper I was drinking with it. I honestly had to go in and lay down. I remember another post here regarding the buzz and Dave Savona stating that you can cure it by taking a teas of sugar. I did that, and it still took time to recover. What you all think?? Anyone else have a similar experience? Also, what does everyone think about the La Flor's.

Only one time in my 35 years of smoking cigars have i gotten sick the culprit a fresh rolled OpusX. Not pleasant at all as i recall. I believe it is the nicotine that is the cause.

I've only smoked a few La Flor's, and I consider them deceptively strong. After the pre-light draw, it seems like the cigar shouldn't be considered full bodied. I had the same experience as you on the first one I smoked. After that, I know to take my time with them, no matter how sweet they are.
Lito Gomez, El Rico de Habano, Opus X - all very strong and have all made me woozy at times in the past. I am not a fan of that feeling, so I make sure and smoke that I smoke those less often.
Interestingly, I have never gotten that woozy feeling from a La Flor (Lito Gomez afiliation), Camacho, Tatuaje, Pepin Garcia, or a Joya de Nic., all makers of bold cigars.

Indeed gentlemen. I just smoked my other ligero(non cabinet)tonight. Pretty good, kinda bland or should I say one sided. Needs more complexity but keeping the mildness and the one flavor I found in this one. Don't know if I'll get into a whole box of these but they're pretty good. The burn was perfect. Good smoke just needed more character. Aroma was damn good too. As for the cabinet. I would definitely buy a box but they need to age. They have all the flavor but for me, you cant enjoy the whole thing without your head spinning.

I remember the first time I had a Opus X double corona...after smoking for 40 mins, I went to get up to get another drink and nearly toppled over..still can't stay away!
...smoke 'em if you got 'em

I hate that feeling. In fact I smoked a RP Olde World on Sunday afternoon and then followed it up with a Oliva Serie O. It was a fat SOB and I smoked it to fast. I swear I am still dizzy. I think I over did it during the holiday and had a nicotene OD. Oh well, guess that's the price we pay.

I had that just once, about a year ago. It was a strong, maduro cigar (don't remember what exactly) with good draw and I accidentally inhaled a pretty hefty portion of smoke. I even stopped smoking that stick for a while. However the dizziness lasted just a few minutes and when I picked it up back from the ashtray, it was still burning, so I didn't even have to relight. But it was a strong enough feeling that I still remember.
I'm nearing the end of some medical issues and still take a lortab here and there. Yesterday I had taken one in the morning and thought the effects of it were gone. At lunch I partook in a Monte PE. WOW! Not a good idea when you have to go back to work! Dizzy, fogginess, etc...all applied.

I have had a few JdN's that have gotten me a little ill to my stomach a few times but that was due to either an empty stomach or trying to smoke those bad boys too fast. If I take my time and smoke them on a full stomach I really do enjoy them.
Don't laugh, but I have some (cheap) La Floridita Corona Maduros in my humi that to this day, will kick my butt every time I smoke em. And I’m pretty hard-core when it comes to tobacco. I have them from my early cigar smoking days; I bought a bundle from FSS--before I understood quality. I don't know what it is, if they're a fluke or what, but they are seriously strong and actually taste pretty good too.
Here's the funny part, I have an early warning system for overpowering cigars. I get non-stop hick-ups. When that happens, I put the cigar down.
I smoke the Coronado by La Flor which is quite a tasty treat. Yes I get a head rush from this one. I learned to slow down my enjoyment and puff more slowly. I rather enjoy the headiness feeling I get. It makes me feel I've smoked a substantial cigar. And you know what? It is!

I'm very new to smoking and one of my very first cigars was a Padron Maduro Exculsvio. I thought I was going to pass out if I didn't stop smoking it. The worst for me was an Onyx Reserve, that one really made me green.

i definitely agree with you. i love the antano's but you got to take your time with them, and eat. i like to smoke one while watching a movie. two hours. i even take a break sometimes and just get something to drink. those smokes are powerful but very good when enjoyed slow.
