These are set to be released at RTDA, I believe. The rep from General Cigar was around this week and passed some out. It wasn't a great cigar, but it was very, very decent for around $3 each.
The Robusto is a 5.5" x 50 wrapped in a streaky, medium-brown sun grown wrapper from, I believe, Ecuador. The filler blend is probably the same Honduran/Nicaraguan mix as the rest of the Don Tomas line. The cigar was nicely if not perfectly constructed and burn and draw were fine. Flavor was earthy with the distinct sharp, cedary note I've come to expect from sun grown wrappers of this type. It wasn't especially complex but nicely balanced and enjoyable in an easygoing way.
Thing is, if you like Rocky Patel Sun Grown (and I do), this cigar bears a distnict resemblance for half the price. It's not as bold or flavorful as the Rocky, and not nearly as nice to look at, but again, this is much better than the usual "filler" and worth a look if you're on a budget or just looking for a better-than-average dogwalker.
I'll have to give this brand a try again. I use to smoke the Don Tomas line quite a bit and enjoyed them, but they seem to have disappear from availability in my neck of the woods.
Those who do not fight evil, command it to be done.
EC, I scored some RP sungrown selects on famous monster deal:20 select torpedo's 38.99 with free shipping.
Also, I find your recommendations very credible and found this offer in a famous smoke magazine
5 for 3 5 Don Pepin Garcia Invictos 19.80 (I ordered 20 cigars)
5 Gran Habano Corojo #5 Rothschild for 9.45 (I ordered 15)
35 premium cigars for 107.95 with free shipping due to the order being over 99 dollars.
"Cuban seed tobaccos grown in Nicaragua and Cuba. The wrapper would be from Cuba. The binder leaves would be from Nicaragua. For the ligero tobacco in the filler, he would use two types, one from Esteli and the other from Jalapa in Nicaragua. The other filler components, seco and viso, would come from Cuba, the former from Villa Clara, the latter from Pinar del Rio. That Cigar, he says with pride, would score 100 points." -Don Pepin Garcia

Wow...that's a nice haul. Are the Sngrown Selects the seconds of the regular RP Sun Grown line? If so, that's a great buy...Rocky seconds are generally very, very good and the Sun Grown is my favorite Rocky cigar.
yes they are the seconds. Famous has selects and seconds. the selects are very close in construction and the seconds are a little beat up.
