(4.5 x 50) Whats a double maduro? A double maduro cigar, is a cigar with a maduro wrapper and a maduro binder. I thought this Punch was a solid medium bodied smoke, the draw was just ok, and it did burn even all the way down. The first inch was slightly bitter after lighting it, but then mellowed out very nicely. The taste was very rich but not overpowering. Worth trying but not a favorite.

I think Wu could teach Jazznut over on Cigar Weekly a thing or two about accurate cigar reviews. Imagine a spectrum - Coronawu on one end, and Jazznut on the other. The rest of us - somewhere in between!

No disrespect intended. I have been reading and enjoying coronawu's reviews since I registered here. I am always intrigued by what makes the favorite list since almost everything else is "worth trying but not a favorite" I just thought that sounded fishy abou the maduro binder since I haven't read that anywhere and I read a good deal about cigars these days.

Also on my end I didn't mean any disrespect by it. The reply was just very "to the point". If it was taken diesrespectfully I am sorry, it was only meant in jest.

Its sad that some people think whatever is on the internet is true. cubanmadecigars.com is wrong. First off I have never even heard of that site before now. My information came directly to me from General Cigars. Who is General Cigars? They are Punch, Partagas, Macanudo, Cohiba, La Gloria Cubana, Sancho Panza,.... Smokiethebear talked about the C.A.O. MX2, that is a double maduro(wrapper and binder are maduro). When I said do some research, I meant facts not fiction.

Oscuro (basically black) - Also referred to as "Double Maduro or "Maduro Maduro." Very few of these are produced today with a few notable exceptions: the very full- flavored El Rey del Mundo Oscuro, Honduran Punch & Hoyo de Monterrey Double Maduro, and the JR Ultimate Oscuro lines. Also let me dismiss a common repeated fallacy regarding Double Maduro & Maduro Maduro cigars: These terms refer solely to their color and not that the cigar is wrapper in two maduro wrappers or a maduro wrapper and binder combo. Somehow this "two-wrapper" mistruth continues to be repeated by some tobacconist year after year. Please when you hear someone say this, politely educate him or her for everyone's benefit.
I'm not saying jr's is right, but with the amount of volume they move, you figure they would have an idea. I always heard double maduro and oscuro are the same, they are fermented twice, to get that extra color.
21 Oscuro This black-as-night wrapper shade is achieved by leaving the leaves on the plant as long as possible, by using only the leaves from the top of the plant, and by fermenting them for an especially long time. Most often Brazilian or Mexican in origin, oscuro wrappers are often very rough, a result of the extra fermentation. This category is sometimes referred to as "black," "negro" or "double maduro."
I think I have a sancho double maduro, maybe I should cut it open for the sake of science to see if the binder is maduro or not. From the people I've talked to and what I have read, I would say its not.
Here is another CA article that specifically states that the MX2 is both maduro binder and wrapper:

Dude! It looks like you got some bum info from someone at General. Double Maduro wrapper is exactly what PMP and Hardlined said. If it had two maduro wrappers it would say it. Its just Oscuro a.k.a double maduro.

I agree with this. My local shop keeper says the CAO MX2 is a maduro binder and a maduro wrapper. He also says that a double maduro is just refering to the color in almost all cases (with exception of the MX2).

Its sounds like were all right because the information I have is in wrighting from C.A.O. regarding their MX2 and the same with Punch. Both stated they had maduro wrappers and binders. If Oscuros are also called double maduros , then I guess General cigars and C.A.O. don't use that term to refer to both. I say that because General Cigars also does Hoyo de Monterey and their Excalibur Prensado is the only one they refer to as an Oscuro because it does not have a maduro binder.

The Punch After Dinner comes in a double maduro. I don't know if the binder and wrapper are both maduro or not, but they go good with a double shot of espresso!
