This is the latest release by Rocky, and from what i hear it is very limited(60 boxes of 50). But was blown away by the smoke. I want to start by saying i don't like the edge, i find it has too much bite. The modified blend in the "square" is amazing; strong but smooth. Has anyone else tried this?

so no one else has tried this cigar?

Is it called the "Square Edge" or is it the "Edge Lite"? Not trying to offend, just trying to clarify what you're smoking. I haven't tried either but am in the process of putting together an order for a future humi.

Alright, whats in question here is the RP Edge cigar... the Edge square press (and this story was from RP himself, or so says my tobacconist who was visiting with him not so long ago) was actually a batch of unbanded cigars that was supposed to be the RP vintage 92 but for some reason never made it that far, and Rocky sat around for about 3 years trying to think of what to do with them. At the time my tobacconist happened to be there visiting and Rocky had told the visitors to take handfuls of these cigars due to the fact he didn't know what to do with them yet. So they sat in the boxes for a few years which gave them the "square box pressed" shape and the aged flavor. Finally Rocky decided to sell them out this way (which is why they remain unbanded, unlike the other RP Edge cigars) and so you have the RP Edge Square.

If thats something you're interested in, perhaps, otherwise its just a nice little tale and a good explanation of how the cigar came to be, and why its abit more flavorful than the other RP Edge cigars.

Frankly, if someone told me that a cigar was rolled underwater in the lost city of Atlantis, I could care less unless it was a really great tasty smoke.

i'm saying that this is a great smoke and very much worth checking out....about them being 1992 RP vintage certainly not. The blend is much stronger than a 1992 not to mention that the only size avalable is not a size that the "92" was avalable in. so whatever this weeks BS story is what your left with is a note worthy cigar for 7.50 which is a rarity in the cigar industry. grab them if you can!

About the blend being much stronger, of course its going to be stronger they sat in boxes for 5 years, and they were never trimmed and banded. However give me a few months and I'll clear up this for good! Rocky Patel is doing an appearance locally down here and I intend on asking him myself.

Just to clarify: what size did these come in and what did the box end up looking like? I think I just recieved a box by mistaken order. Trying to decide if I should send them back or not. How much did these run for also?

I was at a B&M back in late March and I believe I purchased one of these while I was there. If I remember correctly this was a new release at the time as the store had just gotten these in. I believe I still have it sitting in my tupperdor.

If and when I do smoke it I'll do a review.

I purchased some at my B&M this weekend. Very smooth and cool smoke. Excellent draw. No overpowering tastes and I could have two without burning out my pallett. I bought a half doxen for the week.

I'm smoking a Rocky Patel Edge Square Torpedo Maduro as I write this. It's an unbanded cigar. They come in a rough hewn dark wood box. The story given my tobacco shop owner is that they were made for a show and the palets were stuck in a corner for 3 years. And they were just discovered. I paid $5. It's a strong cigar, but well balanced, not harsh. The flavors come from the instant you light it lots of leather surrounded by some spice. It's well built. Long before the first round of ash falls free (at a little over 1") the spice fades. I had to touch it up once by the half way point.

On the 2nd half it started to seem like a one dimensional smoke to me. Just more of the same. Not much of a finish. Became kind of a straight tobacco flavor. The ash continued to hold tight, light gray with some dark gray bands.

Starting the home turn the cigar actually surprised me. About the time I was starting to think, "am I going to smoke this to the nub" it became noticably lighter (which was a pleasant change). I don't have the most refined palet, but it seemed to have some cedar and a touch of floral note. I touched it up again.

There's plenty of nicotine kick in this puppy. You start to notice its effect near the end. I caught some more floral. Again, the finish is short. Construction was good and consistent throughout. It never got hot or bitter (which surprised me). It's a pretty interesting smoke. It's a bit strong to be a daily smoke for me, personally. Once you get to the 2nd half it doesn't naturally make you pay attention to it, you have to try a little bit to stay interested, but it's worth the effort.

I would rate this a solid 7.5 out of 10 on flavor, consistency and construction, 9 for value at $5. If you like a bold smoke and you come across them I would recommend them.
