Before I start my review, let me say that I think these guys are pretty cool for mailing out these samples for feedback on their product. Kudos to Costa Cigars.
Now on to the review.
The cigar I received was a Costa Esplendido. This was roughly about 7 x 47 in size. A standard chuechill.
Appearance and Construction 13 out of 15
The cigar looked and smelled great. The wrapper was smooth and almost vein free. Apparently, our contact in the Costa Cigar company has no idea what the wrapper is, nor does the literature that accompanied the cigar mention it. From the looks and taste though, my guess is that it is shade grown in Ecuador. I have no idea why, it just looks familiar to me. As far as first impressions go, this cigar caught my eye. It was rolled well with no real drawbacks or red flags.
Flavor 10 out of 25
Ruh Roh. This is the lowest score I have ever given for flavor. The first inch of this smoke was a bit harsh, but I detected slight hints of floral and cedar. After the first inch though, the flavor completely dissappeared. I smoked 5 of 7 inches of this cigar, and there was just nothing there for the last 4. It was almost like sucking air through a straw. Quite possibly the 1st cigar I have had with less taste than a macanudo.
Smoking Characteristics 20 out of 25
The cigar smoked well. Good burn, good draw, lots of smoke. No drawbacks here.
Overall 15 of 35
See "flavor" above. This is a stick that uses very sub par tobacco, but was rolled by someone who knows what their doing. I was hoping to give these guys a good review, but it just wasn't to be.
