It's funny sometimes cigars just arrive un-announced and this was the case with this H. Upmann Vintage Cameroon Corona. I suppose when The Cigar Dave Show has you on, they pass your contact information to all the big cigar companies. It was yet another package to arrive and the return address this time was just Altadis USA.
I suppose the least I could do was smoke it.
The thing that I have begun noticing, is construction and packaging. It has a nice package with its triple gold & red bands and cedar wrapping stamped Vintage Cameroon, so it looks nice in the humidor.
It is certainly a nice bit packaging and looks well made compared to my usual Dutch Masters. This is another thing I have started noticing is the way the cigar is put together. I guess the work is craftsmanship, it looks like more care was put in to the creation of this cigar. When I put them next to each other this clearly looks superior in construction. It feels heavier too, which is odd as they are the same size.
The draw was easy and smooth and I noticed this to be a bit stronger than my last review. I would call it a Medium smoke. I noticed many strong flavors of dark cocca but also lighter qualities I'd call floral and then towards the end tastes of dark caramel, pekoe tea, black walnut, a definite cedary quality (I suspect all that cedar wrapped around it must have some effect)& burnt toffee.
It went very well with the Porto, but I think it may not be the right fit for my palate which at this point prefers a milder smoke. I still have the other two, so I'll revisit them in a month or so.
If you are a fan of a medium bodied you might like this well crafted smoke.
