Smoked the bad boy of torpedo's today. The cigar looks great with the silver bands but sort of an ugly duckling without. Course black wrapper. You can tell it is rolled to perfection. An extremely hard cigar with no soft spots and not much give. Clipped it and pre tested the draw. Perfect. Like milk through a straw. Combustion, perfect. Draw, perfect. Burn, perfect. It starts off a little strong and spicy. This only lasts a few drags. It becomes very, very smooth and clean. It is full flavored wood and heavy notes of maple walnut. Thats what I tasted contrary to CA's review. Somewhat leathery. The burn stayed perfect to the nub. As I smoked this I kept saying to my smoking companions, "looks are deceiving, this is very smooth and medium bodied". I must add that this cigar was from the original release so it has sat for what, a year or so? I wouldn't say complex or full of flavor changes just a nice smooth woody sweet maple walnut flavor. I smoked it to the nub. Now for the hidden power. When I was done and said my goodbye's to the boys, I stood up and felt weak need. I needed air. Although the weather was a bit cold I drove home with the window open. A leathery nutty flavor stayed with me for a good 20 minutes. I don't grade on a 100 point scale but I would give this cigar a solid B if that makes sense. Well I hope you understand my review. Well worth a try and I will smoke more.
I like your review, but I didn't have the same experience. Mine was rough around the edges and took 20 minutes to get past the harsh stage. I then got some chocolate undertones, but nothing overly extensive.
I could def see how time would be on this sticks side, but mine was a dud. After reading your review it makes me want to go back an give it one more try... so maybe I will.
It's just hard for me to buy a 13-15 dollar Camacho when I could be smoking a VSG or Cojonu 2003/2006 for in and around the same price.

Agreed about the price. The local Tinderbox has all sizes reduced in price. The $16.00 Torpedo is now $8.95. This Camacho line is a slow seller at the TB so they reduced the price untill they are gone. Now I think thery are well worth that price.
As for yours being a dud, Maybe not. Taste is subjective. Some taste Vanilla notes, (CA review), some taste maple & nuts, (my review). One thing I agree with is age makes a difference in this cigar as does humidity. Age takes away the rough edges and smooths it out making it more ballanced and well rounded. A lower humidity makes this cigar smoke better. Now at the local TB the humidity is usualy a bit high, but luckily this cigar was sitting at about 66-67% and there for smoked much better. The thick tripple maduro needs a lower humidity to combust better and draw cleaner and more even. These cigars do receive mixed reviews as a novelty cigar(tripple maduro)would. Of course this is MHO.
Yup, when I smoked one it also hit me pretty hard and I can take most any strong smoke in-stride. I actually put this one down early which is rare for me.

I would have to say that it is one of my favs. I like the 60 ring guage. It is mild to full bodied. Not as strong as I was told. Smokes really nice. jmho

I had one at my local stogie shop while chatting with friends...I, also, thought it was very smooth and not a full smoke. I sat there smoking away and chatting. Some ladies came in and I got up to move my chair when all of a sudden the room sort of spun on me. I sort of nonchalantly leaned against the wall and stayed out of their way. The whole time, my friend who works behind the counter, is grinning big time. When the ladies left he turned to me and started busting out laughing.
I honestly wasn't sure if I could drive for almost an hour afterwards. Admittedly, I did smoke this on an empty stomach. Big mistake.
It is smoother than expected. Not stunning to look at...in fact, I dont think it is eye-candy at all. Not sure if it meets all the hype though.
I had the smallest length of these cigars and found it to be a fantastic cigar that I really enjoyed but the price of these bad boys keeps me from getting more.
I had one of these in my humidor for 6 months and lit it up a few weeks back.
The first inch was too potent for my liking, glad I was sitting down and had a full stomach. In fact, I almost put it out. After persevering I found that the rest of the cig was was decent. Not great, but it had some subtle flavours that took the edge off the peppery/woody overtones. It became much smoother as well.
Burn was perfect; and I recall that it let off a lot of smoke.
Glad I tasted one, but I would not purchase it again.
I have read all the reviews and I will tell you I love this cigar. I tried one and just fell in love with it so I bought a box. However....time, humidity, smoking temperature ( I do not know what to call it, it is how fast you smoke the cigar and how hot it burns) will have a huge impact on this cigar. I took 2 of them with me in a travel humidor on a golf trip and they got a little dry and caused them to be harsh. So I have had both a good and bad experience with this wonderful cigar.
So key I have found is they need to be kept around 72% and when you do smoke them you need a nice smooth draw, cooler temp, and the cut makes a taste difference for me. Overall I was very surprised with the smoothness, taste, and just overall aroma. I also got a surprise "kick" after smoking it.
