I was down at the cigar shop with my cousin who doesn't smoke. The store owner gave me this for him in case he felt like smoking later. He didn't so I sparked it up instead. I used to smoke a lot of la perlas. The classic line and the original black pearl actually arent half bad with enough age. Here is the cobre.

Appearance and construction 14/15
Nice looking cigar! The light latte colored wrapper has a few spider veins but overall its smooth and silky. The prelight aroma and flavor are nice too. I V cut the tip just to try something different. The draw is nice and easy.

Flavor 16/25
I'm not penalizing this for being a bad smoke necessarily. Its just too different for my tastes. The flavor is actually quite pronounced. I would put this at a solid medium. The finish is quite robust. The flavor kills me though. Its a mix of cocoa, floral, and spice that makes for a trainwreck on your palate. The confusion on the palate is similar to when you mix two of your favorite things together that just don't blend well. Say for example you were to mix nacho cheese and chocolate pudding. On their own they are quite good but together... not so good. That is my take on this cigar. Its too random. It had a few very good moments. Occasionally I got a nice cocoa flavor with a clean bittersweet finish. At other times I didn't like the profile very much.

Smoking characteristics 21/25
The burn was great. The smoke volume was a little sparse, a problem I have had with many la perla habana products. The fill is pretty awesome though. I don't know how they do it but La perla seems to positively load their cigar with leaf. They feel like rocks and sometimes smoke like it too. This one I left out for a few hours and it is burning and drawing better than their norm. The taste is something else entirely.

Overall 23/35
What a strange smoking experience. I don't like the flavor of the ecuadorean connecticut wrapper. It sure is purty though. I would recommend this cigar if all you plan on doing is looking at it. But if you plan to smoke it, skip this one. Actually, I can see how somebody would like this. When they came out last year they were all over the place and I think the going price was around 50 bucks a box. At that price I can definitely see how these found some fans - most likely noobs. I might try another one if it was free. Better yet give this to someone who thinks they have tasted everything. Then watch the contorted, confused, disturbed look on their face as they try to make sense of what they are tasting.

Overall, who knows? Its not worth taking the time to add up.

I guess I can see the confusion.
