I like the older La Aroma de Cubas, although occasionally I would grab one that was exceptionally powerfull, too strong IMO. I was eager to try the Edicion Especials by Pepin when they came out, smoother, more refined and that nice Nicaraguan-Pepin style flavor. At my last stop to the B&M I saw a box of the "New Blend" Aroma de Cubas so I went for the robusto, the new blend is signified with a red band at the foot of the cigars. This is my first official review on CA so here goes;

Appearance: Very nice dark and toothy Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. 5x54 size so nice and girthy, well constructed and even throughout.

1st Third Clipped the cap and the draw was marvelous as expected for the ring gauge. Pre-lit draw was very fruity, almost plum-like and earthy for sure. The light was even and ash was very white. I was very impressed with just how much smoke this thing drew. It was strong for sure at the beginning but wasn't overpowering. Very promint earthy tobacco flavors present and a hint of sweetness.

2nd Third The power settled down and the refinement eased in. Don't get wrong, the power was still present, especially if you exhale thru your nostrils, but it didn't dominate the cigar. Burn was still very even and the amount of smoke on the exhales filled my back deck. The flavors didn't seem to change, but the cigar behaved properly, didn't get hot and still emmitted huge plumes of white smoke.

Last Third The strength seemed to reappear but mellow enough to still appreciate the somewhat dark-fruit, sweet flavors. The burn was never an issue, the ash stayed on a good inch+, finish was pleasant and well behaved. The draw stayed perfect and the smoke came almost effortlessly.

Final Impression I found this cigar to be very pleasant, surely any DPG fan will want to try one. It seemed to remind me of elements of a San Cristobal(NC) and a Tatuje Reserva Maduro, the wrapper was similar to one of my Tat Regios Reserva Maduros in apperance and construction. Again, the flavors stayed consistant, never burned hot, draw was excellent as well as the construction and burn pattern. Well worth $7-8, I would score this a 90. Very solid and stable but not overly complex with ever-changing flavors (some like that and some don't). Try one if you like DPG stuff, I don't think you'll be dissapointed. Happy smoking Gentlemen.

Great review. I thought you were reviewing the EEs, my mistake.

For some reason, I still prefer the old La Aromas de cuba... they have been my goto smoke and didn't quite like the new ones.

I love these new ones, however they are horribly inconsistent! however, when you get a good ones it worth the 4 bad ones you had to get through.
