Ecuadorian Sun Grown Wrapper
Dominican Piloto Filler
Appearance and Construction (12 out of 15 points)
Unlike its Green Labeled cousin, this is a cigar I want to smoke when I look at it. Just knowing it has a sun grown wrapper makes my mouth water at the thought of the flavors that will soon begin to coat my palate. The cigar looks to be well constructed, and offers just the right amount of firmness when I squeeze it between my thumb and forefinger. The wrapper’s only blemish is a shade of dark brown at the foot of the cigar that is slightly darker in color than the rest of the leaf it is wrapped in. This appears to be a good cigar. Not outstanding, but good.
Flavor (21 out of 25 points)
The predominant flavors I experience while enjoying this stick was that of cedar and a hint of earthiness, but with a touch of pepper and spice. It began as a medium to full bodied smoke, but mellowed an inch in to a good medium bodied cigar. The slight hints of pepper and spice continued throughout the smoke, and this somewhat reminded me of an Alec Bradley Havana Sun Grown.
Smoking Characteristics (22 out of 25 points)
This cigar clipped beautifully. I used a single blade Colibri cutter that my wonderful girlfriend bought me for my birthday, and it was that kind of cut where the cap just pops right off. The prelight draw was smooth and easy, and I could taste the sun grown wrapper before I even lit it up. The draw was nice, although a little on the tight side for me. This cigar burned nice and even all the way down, with a thick cloud of velvety smoke with each puff.
Overall (30 out of 35 points)
Overall this was a decent cigar that reminded me of an Alec Bradley Havana Sun Grown. The construction was good, and it was an easy cigar to smoke. I think it would make a nice alternative for you guys that smoke the heavy stuff, and want that sun grown flavor in a cigar you don’t mind smoking only half way.
Overall score 85
