Saw these on C Bid and I thought, "New smokes, must try!" See, that's my thing, love to try new lines.
Here's CI's description: "Covered in a juicy Costa Rican maduro wrapper, it is breathtaking - like an ocean of dark chocolatey goodness - and will make you fumble, stumble and bumble for cutter and lighter. The toothy, dark wrapper in turn hugs a 3-country long-filler blend of 4-year-aged tobaccos, and the whole thing rests for 6 additional months after rolling."
5 Vegas 'A' Anamoly (4.5" x 44)
Appearance and construction 11/15
Kinda ugly. Dark brown maduro wrapper with big veins and some evidence of hasty rolling. Also there were quite a few light brown spots on the wrapper. or wahtever reason i've been using a v-cutter and after i cut it and took a pre-light draw i was VERY suprised at how easy the draw was.
Flavor 20/25
Hmmm... starts off rich and peppery, then tones down a bit into rich coffee flavors. A little bit of nuttiness. halfway through it good weird for a few puffs, a little kick of ammonia that quickly dissipated and i was left with mostly coffee flavors the rest of the way.
Smoking characteristics 22/25
Smoked ok. Didn't like the draw, it was waaaay too easy (kinda like Stogie's favorite sheep). But there was buttloads of smoke, especially for a lil' PC like this one. The ash was firm and burned evenly.
Overall 30/35
Just before I had a 5 Vegas Gold Churchill. I really enjoyed it, so that might have been a slight bias to this little feller. It just didn't do it for me. However, this probably will benefit from some time inthe humi, so I'll let the rest sit for a while.
So for now my reccomendation is to try the Golds instead.
Sorry you didn't like it that much Sprizzle. I'm letting mine sit in the humidor for at least a month or so before I smoke one. Found out this was the best way to go with the 5 Vegas golds and the 2005 Limitadas. The 2005 Limitadas really smoke great and are really tasty with a couple of months on them, and I don't think the A's will be any different.

Just as an added note, I had a 5 Vegas "A" Archtype the other night (kind of a robusta larga) that had been sitting about 5 weeks and it was really tasty. I'm really starting to like the whole 5 Vegas line with the new stuff they are adding.

That's a good question Stoge. I know the 5 Vegas 2005 Limitada is made in the La Aurora factory in the Dominican Republic. The regular 5 Vegas and the 5 Vegas Gold, from what I understand, are made in their own factory in Danli, Honduras. The new 5 Vegas "A",which I happen to like a lot, I believe also are made by La Aurora as the tax doc on the boxes I have is Domincan. I know they are not affiliated with Villazon, Altadis, or General, so they are most likely independent as the tobacco they use comes from their own farms ( except for the Peruvian and Brazilian leaves they use in the blends in the Limitada). I'll try to find out more on this as its a real interesting question. Gawd, I've been smoking 5 Vegas for years and never really thought about it a lot.

As an update to this, all the 5 Vegas line are owned and blended by Hendrik Kelner (he of Cusano fame). The new "A"'s and the 5 Vegas Limitada 2005 are made in the La Aurora factory which accounts for the great construction, burn, and taste. The Vegas Golds and the regular 5 Vegas Sumatra wrapper line are made in Honduras.
The "A"'s I have smoked lately, including the Anomaly, have all burned very well, and the taste has been nothing short of great after a couple of months rest to even out the RH. The Limitada belicoso is one very tasty smoke with a smooth tasting SunGrown wrapper and just a touch of corojo in the blend. With the Vegas Golds, these are becoming some of my favorite daily smokes. Really hard to beat a 5 Vegas gold robusto with morning coffee with its honey/spice taste and good burn, not to mention a price that won't break you.

Going through old reviews. I just had an Alpha this morning after b-fast trying to get into the mode for work. I just got them so this one probably needs some time at rest, but for a green cigar it was pretty good. Lots of smoke and way easy on the draw.
