First of all I would like to thank ElPresidente for the wonderfull stick, it was totally an awesome cigar that sparked a 4 cigar day.
Mystery Stick-Looks like a 5 5/8 x 46 of cuban origin?
Apperance and construction (14 of 15 points possible)
A nice tan brown wrapper with minimal veins and excellent tooth. Good oils are present as it glistens in the sunlight. The whole ensamble is finished off with a lovely triple cap (Hmmm). The cigar feels good in the hand with no detectable soft spots and solidly built.
Flavor (23 of 25)
Oh! The chocolaty earthey twang and velvety texture of the smoke as it coats my palate along with the triple cap is all the proof I need to know this baby is a habanos. Fist couple of puffs reveal chocolate, coffea, earth, hints of pepper with a spicy twang rounding out the finish. This cigar has a very good complexity with a nice toastiness. At 1/3 the cigar is a medium-full bodied smoke that continues to build in strength and complexity. At the half way point the cigar seems to mello a bit with exellent balance. The flavors are now more robust and pronounced with the coffea turning more into a coffea bean type flavor and the chocolate more bittersweet. The earthy tones and spicy, peppery twang are still present also. This cigar finishes up very nice with a rich balanced solid Medium almost medium-full body. No harshness or bitterness detected, flavors of coffea bean, rich expresso and twangy spice round out the finish. It was an absolute finger burner.
Smoking characteristics (20 of 25 points possible)
The aroma is rich and heady with a toasty tobacco note, consisting of hardwood and aromas of hot chocolate. The draw is excellent, no problems at all. The burn is slightly off at half way but is not out of control, yet. I dropped the ash off at one inch, salt and pepper in color with a semi crunchy firmness in texture. At half way after I dumped the ash, the burn straighted up and drove it home razor sharp. No touch ups needed. NOTE-The ash seemed to curl upon smoking, even after I dropped the first one I rotated it while drawing and it still did it. It doesnt bother me at all but distracts from the asthetics.
Overall impression (33 of 35 points possible)
This cigar really hit my fancy. Im a sucker for any smoke with a core of flavors consisting of coffea bean, chocolate, pepper and that good ol' spicy twang. Now what is it, Im curious.
Who do we have to kill to find out what it was?? Patience is not one of my strong suits.
